`32:1 In the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, on the first of the month, the word of the Lord came to me:

Ezekiel was given a sixth prophecy against Egypt on March 3, 585 B.C. This was two months after the news of Jerusalem’s fall reached the captives in Babylon.

32:2 “Son of man, sing a lament for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say to him: “ ‘You were like a lion among the nations, but you are a monster in the seas; you thrash about in your streams, stir up the water with your feet, and muddy your streams.

Ezekiel was once again addressed as a “son of man,” meaning that he was a human being who was given birth through the line of Adam. He was commanded by Jehovah to sing a funeral song for Pharaoh Hophra of Egypt. Ezekiel had already written funeral songs for Judah, the city of Tyre, and the king of Tyre. In this new funeral song, Pharaoh Hophra was compared to a “lion among the nations,” meaning that he was similar to the strong kings of Judah. He was also compared to either a crocodile, or most likely a sea monster. He thrashed around in the water and muddied the streams of the other nations.

It is interesting to note that Egypt was also called “the great dragon that lies in the midst of his rivers” (Ezekiel 29:3). The Hebrew word for “a monster in the seas” is תַּנִּין (tanin). Many modern commentators who are influenced by evolutionary teaching often translate תַּנִּין (tanin) as “whale” or “crocodile.”  However, the descriptions of these animals in other biblical verses indicate that they may have been fierce plesiosaurs.

32:3 “ ‘This is what the sovereign Lord says: “ ‘I will throw my net over you in the assembly of many peoples; and they will haul you up in my dragnet.

Ezekiel continued his funeral song. Jehovah is sovereign over all nations, including Egypt. Jehovah would go dinosaur hunting with the Babylonians and throw his net over Egypt the ferocious plesiosaur. The Babylonians and their allies would haul away Egypt the dinosaur in a dragnet.

32:4 I will leave you on the ground, I will fling you on the open field, I will allow all the birds of the sky to settle on you, and I will permit all the wild animals to gorge themselves on you.

Jehovah would leave Egypt the plesiosaur on the open field. Birds of the sky and beasts of the field would gorge themselves on this dinosaur feast.

32:5 I will put your flesh on the mountains, and fill the valleys with your maggot-infested carcass.

Egypt would become nothing but a dead dinosaur. Her flesh would be placed upon the mountains of Egypt. The valleys of Egypt would be filled with her maggot-infested dead body.

32:6 I will drench the land with the flow of your blood up to the mountains, and the ravines will be full of your blood.

The land of Egypt would be filled with dead corpses. The blood of the Egyptians would metaphorically cover the mountains and fill the valleys.

32:7 When I extinguish you, I will cover the sky; I will darken its stars. I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon will not shine.

After Jehovah killed Egypt the dinosaur, then Jehovah would cover the sky with darkness.

32:8 I will darken all the lights in the sky over you, and I will darken your land, declares the sovereign Lord.

This darkness over Egypt was a similar judgment of the ninth plague of Moses. Ra was the sun god of Egypt, but he could not stop Moses (through Jehovah) from executing this plague of darkness. This darkness is also similar to the five blackouts which will occur preceding and into the future Great Tribulation which will come upon the whole earth.

32:9 I will disturb many peoples, when I bring about your destruction among the nations, among countries you do not know.

Many of the other nations would hear about the destruction of Egypt and be disturbed. If the Babylonians could defeat mighty Egypt so easily, then what would happen to them?

32:10 I will shock many peoples with you, and their kings will shiver with horror because of you. When I brandish my sword before them, every moment each one will tremble for his life, on the day of your fall.

The fall of Egypt would cause the other nations to greatly fear Babylon.

32:11 “ ‘For this is what the sovereign Lord says: “ ‘The sword of the king of Babylon will attack you.

Ezekiel sang the third stanza of his funeral song to Egypt. Just in case Egypt did not understand the symbolism of the first two stanzas, then Ezekiel sang a literal prophecy which could be clearly understood. The Babylonians would attack Egypt with their swords.

32:12 By the swords of the mighty warriors I will cause your hordes to fall— all of them are the most terrifying among the nations. They will devastate the pride of Egypt, and all its hordes will be destroyed.

The Babylonian swords would destroy Egypt and her allies.

32:13 I will destroy all its cattle beside the plentiful waters; and no human foot will disturb the waters again, nor will the hooves of cattle disturb them.

The livestock of Egypt would also be destroyed.

32:14 Then I will make their waters calm, and will make their streams flow like olive oil, declares the sovereign Lord.

The Nile River would be calm, because the land would be desolate of people and livestock.

32:15 When I turn the land of Egypt into desolation and the land is destitute of everything that fills it, when I strike all those who live in it, then they will know that I am the Lord.’

When the land of Egypt becomes desolate, then the Egyptians who go into captivity would know that Jehovah is Lord.

32:16 This is a lament; they will chant it. The daughters of the nations will chant it. They will chant it over Egypt and over all her hordes, declares the sovereign Lord.”

Like professional chanters, the daughters of the surrounding nations would be hired as mourners to chant a funeral song over the fall of Egypt.

32:17 In the twelfth year, on the fifteenth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me:

Jehovah gave Ezekiel a seventh and final prophecy against Egypt on possibly March 17, 585 B.C. The exact month was not given, but many commentators believe that this prophecy was given during the same month as the sixth prophecy in the previous verses 1-16.

32:18 “Son of man, wail over the horde of Egypt. Bring it down; bring her and the daughters of powerful nations down to the lower parts of the earth, along with those who descend to the pit.

Ezekiel was once again addressed as a “son of man,” because he was born into the genealogy of Adam. Egypt and her allies would be killed by the Babylonians and brought into Sheol, the place of the dead.

32:19 Say to them, ‘Whom do you surpass in beauty? Go down and be laid to rest with the uncircumcised!’

Once the Egyptians arrive in Sheol, then the other dead people from other nations would inform Egypt that they were no longer beautiful. The Egyptians were just as dead as everyone else. They died, just as other uncircumcised Gentiles died. Uncircumcised Gentiles were those who did not trust in the Abrahamic Covenant of the Jewish people.

32:20 They will fall among those killed by the sword. The sword is drawn; they carry her and all her hordes away.

Egypt and her allies died by the sword, just as many of those in Sheol had died by the sword.

32:21 The bravest of the warriors will speak to him from the midst of Sheol along with his allies, saying: ‘The uncircumcised have come down; they lie still, killed by the sword.’

The bravest of Egyptian warriors would all end in the same place. The uncircumcised and unbelieving soldiers of Egypt would be killed by the sword, buried in the ground, and their souls would descend into Sheol.

32:22 “Assyria is there with all her assembly around her grave, all of them struck down by the sword. 32:23 Their graves are located in the remote slopes of the pit. Her assembly is around her grave, all of them struck down by the sword, those who spread terror in the land of the living.

The dead Assyrian soldiers were all waiting in Sheol for the Egyptian soldiers to join them.

32:24 “Elam is there with all her hordes around her grave; all of them struck down by the sword. They went down uncircumcised to the lower parts of the earth, those who spread terror in the land of the living. Now they will bear their shame with those who descend to the pit. 25 Among the dead they have made a bed for her, along with all her hordes around her grave. All of them are uncircumcised, killed by the sword, for their terror had spread in the land of the living. They bear their shame along with those who descend to the pit; they are placed among the dead.

The dead Persian soldiers were all waiting in Sheol for the Egyptian soldiers to join them. The Persians were defeated by the Babylonians. Later on in history, the Persians would be revived as a people. They would join with the Medes and defeat the Babylonians.

32:26 “Meshech-Tubal is there, along with all her hordes around her grave. All of them are uncircumcised, killed by the sword, for they spread their terror in the land of the living. 27 They do not lie with the fallen warriors of ancient times, who went down to Sheol with their weapons of war, having their swords placed under their heads and their shields on their bones, when the terror of these warriors was in the land of the living.

The dead Russian (and/or Turkey) soldiers were all waiting in Sheol for the Egyptian soldiers to join them.

32:28 “But as for you, in the midst of the uncircumcised you will be broken, and you will lie with those killed by the sword.

Pharaoh and his Egyptian army would also be killed. They would all join these conquered nations in Sheol.

32:29 “Edom is there with her kings and all her princes. Despite their might they are laid with those killed by the sword; they lie with the uncircumcised and those who descend to the pit.

The dead Edomite soldiers were all waiting in Sheol for the Egyptians to join them.

32:30 “All the leaders of the north are there, along with all the Sidonians; despite their might they have gone down in shameful terror with the dead. They lie uncircumcised with those killed by the sword, and bear their shame with those who descend to the pit.

The leaders of the north were most likely the Phoenicians who lived in the sister cities of Tyre and Sidon (Sidonians). The dead Phoenician soldiers were all waiting in Sheol for the Egyptian soldiers to join them.

32:31 “Pharaoh will see them and be consoled over all his hordes who were killed by the sword, Pharaoh and all his army, declares the sovereign Lord.

Pharaoh Hophra claimed that he was a god, but he was humiliated at his defeat to the Babylonians. However, he would be consoled in death when he was transported down to Sheol. He would meet many other kings who were humiliated and conquered as well.

32:32 Indeed, I terrified him in the land of the living, yet he will lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with those killed by the sword, Pharaoh and all his hordes, declares the sovereign Lord.”

All of these nations once terrified others, but their end result was death. This is an object lesson to those modern nations today who want to use their military and political power to crush others. Their end result will be the grave. Those who reject the Lord Jesus Christ will burn in the Lake of Fire forever.
