Genesis 38

Judah and Tamar

Gen 1:1At that time Judah left his brothers and stayed with an Adullamite man named Hirah.

Chapter 38 is a tough lesson. This chapter is one of the most important spiritual lessons in the Bible, but it is the most censored.

The Bible contains the solution to all of life's problems for believers who live as ambassadors and soldiers inside the satanic world system, but few people will study the entire counsel of the Word of God. Even sex education is taught in the Bible, but the satanic world system has shamed parents into censoring parts of the Bible which human parents feel are "unacceptable" for children. This is basically telling the Holy Spirit that He does not know what He is doing. This is like accusing the Holy Spirit of not understanding what needs to be left inside or outside of the Bible. This is like accusing the Holy Spirit of not protecting innocent children. This is parents elevating their own human opinion above that of the Holy Spirit. This is ridiculous thinking which is held by unbelievers and carnal Christians who are not grounded in the entire counsel of the Word of God. The entire counsel of the Word of God should be taught to children, especially the teachings on sex education. It is unwise to allow any child to enter into puberty without knowledge of the entire counsel of the Word of God.  The satanic world system will seduce them into the dark side of rock and roll (heavy metal, hard rock, acid rock etc),  sex, and drugs.

The Holy Spirit wants to teach children the entire counsel of the Word of God. This includes sex education. If children do not learn sex education from the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God, then Satan will be happy to teach them through Hollywood, their peers, or from the satanically inspired media.

It is important to note that Jesus learned the entire counsel of the Word of God by the age of 13 years old. Many of the Jewish children memorized the first five books of the Bible, including Genesis 38. It is the responsibility of all parents to teach their children the entire counsel of the Word of God, including chapters such as Genesis 38. The truths of Scripture should never be censored from children. Therefore, this chapter will be taught in its entirety to all who wish to learn a lesson from the Holy Spirit on the dangers of inappropriate sex and the dangers of multiculturalism.

When Joseph was 17 years old and sold into Egyptian slavery, Judah left his brothers and lived with the Canaanites. Judah will later be declared the seed-son, so living among the Canaanites is a very bad location for the seed-son to live in.

2There Judah saw the daughter of a Canaanite man named Shua. Judah acquired her as a wife and had marital relations with her.

Judah, the seed-son, married a Canaanite, who was a member of the cursed race.

3She became pregnant and had a son. Judah named him Er.

Er means “watcher.” This son was half-Jewish and half-Canaanite. He was raised by a Canaanite mother who had been raised in an occultic society,

4She became pregnant again and had another son, whom she named Onan.

Onan means “strength” or “sorrow.” The seed-son now had two sons mixed with the cursed race. Both of these sons were being raised by a Canaanite mother.

5Then she had yet another son, whom she named Shelah. She gave birth to him in Kezib.

Shelah means “weak.” Shelah would become the founder of the Shelanite clan. The seed-son now had three sons of the cursed race. All three sons were being influenced by the satanic Canaanite culture.

6Judah acquired a wife for Er his firstborn; her name was Tamar.

Er grew up and married a Canaanite wife. The Jewish race was now 3/4 Canaanite. Tamar means “palm tree.”

7But Er, Judah’s firstborn, was evil in the Lord’s sight, so the Lord killed him.

The Hebrew word for evil is רַ֖ע (ra), meaning evil that deserves divine punishment.

The Hebrew word for “killed” is מוּת (muth), a hiphil third person singular verb, meaning God caused him to die. Er committed the sin unto death.

It is important to note that modern Christians can also commit the sin unto death by disobeying God's will beyond his tolerance level. If a Christian continues in sin past the point of no return, then God will bring him home. The sinful Christian will not lose his salvation, but he will lose his physical life, his call to serve God on earth, and his eternal rewards.

8Then Judah said to Onan, “Have sexual relations with your brother’s wife and fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law to her so that you may raise up a descendant for your brother.”

This law was from the Code of Hammurabi, which was the basic law of the people of ancient Mesopotamia. This law stated that if a man died childless, then his brother was responsible to carry on the seed of his brother’s family. The Canaanites and the inhabitants of Mesopotamia were greatly influenced by this secular law, just as modern Christians are greatly influenced by the secular laws of their culture. It is important to remember that God's laws are higher than man's laws. Judah was the seed son of the coming Messiah, but he was following the secular laws of the Canaanites and not the law of God.

9But Onan knew that the child would not be considered his. So whenever he had sexual relations with his brother’s wife, he withdrew prematurely so as not to give his brother a descendant.

Onan enjoyed the sexual gratification from Tamar, but he was not interested in continuing his brother’s line. He was not interested in granting Tamar any children.

10What he did was evil in the Lord’s sight, so the Lord killed him too.

Onan did not listen to the seed-son, meaning that he violated the Abrahamic Covenant, He committed the sin unto death.

11Then Judah said to his daughter-in-law Tamar, “Live as a widow in your father’s house until Shelah my son grows up.” For he thought, “I don’t want him to die like his brothers.” So Tamar went and lived in her father’s house.

Tamar began her long widowhood without a husband to care for her when she was young or a son to care for her when she was old. Judah thought that Tamar was bad luck, so he did not want Tamar anywhere around his sons.

12After some time Judah’s wife, the daughter of Shua, died. After Judah was consoled, he left for Timnah to visit his sheepshearers, along with his friend Hirah the Adullamite.

After many years, the seed-son was still living among the Canaanites. This compromise with the culture was a huge threat to the Chosen People of God.

13Tamar was told, “Look, your father-in-law is going up to Timnah to shear his sheep.”

After many years, Judah had not kept his promise to Tamar. Tamar lived as a widow without any children to support her. She had learned that Judah the seed-son was not a man of his word. He did not keep his promise to her.

14So she removed her widow’s clothes and covered herself with a veil. She wrapped herself and sat at the entrance to Enaim which is on the way to Timnah. (She did this because she saw that she had not been given to Shelah as a wife, even though he had now grown up.)

Tamar was a widow who had to wear special clothes to point out her position in society. Widows were usually mistreated. In some cultures, they were put to death and buried with their husbands.

Many of the prostitutes dressed like a bride on her wedding night, meaning that they wore a veil to cover their face. Leah had worn a veil when she deceived and married Jacob. Tamar was now going to deceive Judah. She sat at the gate of the Canaanite city disguised as a prostitute, waiting for Judah.

Both Hittite and Assyrian Law permitted marriage to be performed between a childless widow and her father-in-law. However, Tamar was already promised to Shelah. Therefore, she was guilty of adultery and incest. Adultery, incest, homosexuality, lesbianism, temple prostitution, gang rape, sex with children, sex with animals, were everyday occurrences in Canaan. These sexual crimes were permitted and approved by the Canaanite culture. Judah, the seed son had chosen to join himself into this type of society.

15When Judah saw her, he thought she was a prostitute because she had covered her face.

Under Assyrian Law, only married prostitutes could wear this outfit. The Hebrew word for “prostitute” is זָנָה (zonah), meaning a common prostitute. Judah thought that Tamar was a common prostitute. Judah the seed son had earlier deceived Joseph. Now, Judah the seed son was deceived by his own daughter-in-law.

16He turned aside to her along the road and said, “Come on! I want to have sex with you.” (He did not realize it was his daughter-in-law.) She asked, “What will you give me in exchange for having sex with you?”

Prostitutes were merchandise to men. Usually, unloving fathers sold their beautiful daughters to pagan priests for a large price. The priests would use addicting hallucinogen drugs to keep their prostitutes under control.

17He replied, “I’ll send you a young goat from the flock.” She asked, “Will you give me a pledge until you send it?”

Tamar acted like she did not trust Judah. What she was really doing was acquiring evidence to use against her deceitful father-in-law.

18He said, “What pledge should I give you?” She replied, “Your seal, your cord, and the staff that’s in your hand.” So he gave them to her and had sex with her. She became pregnant by him.

The signet was a ring that sealed legal documents. This was very valuable to Judah. The cord was the necklace which held the ring. The staff was evidence of his occupation.

19She left immediately, removed her veil, and put on her widow’s clothes.

Tamar went back to her former life as a widow under the house of Judah the seed son.

20Then Judah had his friend Hirah the Adullamite take a young goat to get back from the woman the items he had given in pledge, but Hirah could not find her.

The prostitute was gone. Judah did not yet know that the prostitute was actually his Canaanite daughter-in-law.

21He asked the men who were there, “Where is the cult prostitute who was at Enaim by the road?” But they replied, “There has been no cult prostitute here.”

Tamar had pretended to be a cultic prostitute. This was a one-time event, so the citizens were not familiar with this one-time incident. They were familiar with the other prostitutes, but not with Tamar. This recording of history shows that Judah had completely assimilated into the Canaanite culture. He possibly had involved himself with other temple prostitutes. Part of the Canaanite temple prostitution system involved human sacrifice, drugs, and demonic worship.

22So he returned to Judah and said, “I couldn’t find her. Moreover, the men of the place said, ‘There has been no cult prostitute here.’”

This was the truth. Tamar had only pretended to be a cultic prostitute. She planned her entrance only when Judah arrived at the gates.

23Judah said, “Let her keep the things for herself. Otherwise we will appear to be dishonest. I did indeed send this young goat, but you couldn’t find her.”

Judah attempted to keep his word to this prostitute. Since she was not present, she could keep the items and Judah would keep his goat.

24After three months Judah was told, “Your daughter-in-law Tamar has turned to prostitution, and as a result she has become pregnant.” Judah said, “Bring her out and let her be burned!”

Judah was the patriarch of the family. He had the right to make decisions of any family members who were living among his tribe. Tamar was his daughter-in-law. She was protected by Judah, but she could also be judged by Judah.

25While they were bringing her out, she sent word to her father-in-law: “I am pregnant by the man to whom these belong.” Then she said, “Identify the one to whom the seal, cord, and staff belong.”

Tamar brought out her evidence at trial. Judah was not at the trial.

26Judah recognized them and said, “She is more upright than I am, because I wouldn’t give her to Shelah my son.” He did not have sexual relations with her again.

According to the Code of Hammurabi, the widow Tamar had the right to be impregnated by her father-in-law, Judah was obedient to secular law, but not to the Law of God.

27When it was time for her to give birth, there were twins in her womb.

Tamar gave birth to twins through incest with Judah the seed-son.

28While she was giving birth, one child put out his hand, and the midwife took a scarlet thread and tied it on his hand, saying, “This one came out first.”

The baby who came out first would inherit the rights of the first-born.

29But then he drew back his hand, and his brother came out before him. She said, “How you have broken out of the womb!” So he was named Perez.

Perez means “one who breaks through.” Perez broke through his mother’s womb and came out first. Perez would become the next seed-son of the Messiah. Therefore, Tamar was a Canaanite woman who tricked the seed-son into incest so that she could give birth to the next seed-son.

The interpretation of the rabbinic Targum Onkelos was, “What great powers do you possess to have such strength?” The rabbi saw this as an allusion to the strength of the Messiah who would descend from Perez.

30Afterward his brother came out – the one who had the scarlet thread on his hand – and he was named Zerah.

Zerah means “the shining one.” He became the ancestor of Achan, who would later steal plunder from Ai and cause calamity to fall upon Israel.

In conclusion, the human viewpoint of the satanic world system teaches that God was immoral for His order of the genocide of the Canaanites.

The divine viewpoint of the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God teaches that if God had not removed the Jewish race from the Canaanite race, then the Jewish race would have intermingled and intermarried and become just as corrupt and evil as the Canaanites. The Canaanites must be exterminated from the earth, because they were not only a threat to the Jewish race, but to all other Gentile races as well. Their multiculturalism was too dangerous for the inhabitants of the earth. Multiculturalism is still just as dangerous today. The other cults and religions of the world are not equal to Judaism or Christianity. Judaism and Christianity possess divine origins and they are centered in the truth. Cults and isms are satanically inspired and they mix truth with error. Multiculturalism appeals to unbelievers and carnal Christians, only because they lack divine viewpoint from the entire counsel of the Word of God. Believers need to understand the end result of multiculturalism and expose it as evil.
