50:1 This is what the Lord says: “Where is your mother’s divorce certificate by which I divorced her? Or to which of my creditors did I sell you? Look, you were sold because of your sins; because of your rebellious acts I divorced your mother.

In the Book of Hosea, the nation of Israel was referred to as the wife of Jehovah. Israel complained that God had divorced her and sold her into slavery. According to the Mosaic Law, a woman could only be divorced if she displeased her husband. Then, she must be given a certificate of divorce. A child could only be sold into slavery to pay a debt.

Israel had committed adultery by worshiping other gods, so God had separated from her. However, He did not divorce her, because He never issued a decree of divorce. He never sold her into slavery, because God was never in debt. In the Book of Jeremiah, God will divorce Israel. The certificate of divorce will be the Book of Jeremiah.

50:2 Why does no one challenge me when I come? Why does no one respond when I call? Is my hand too weak to deliver you? Do I lack the power to rescue you? Look, with a mere shout I can dry up the sea; I can turn streams into a desert, so the fish rot away and die from lack of water.

God has the power to dry up the sea. He can dry streams in a desert, causing all of the fish to die. God invited Israel to come back to Him, but she was not interested. She did not respond to His call.

50:3 I can clothe the sky in darkness; I can cover it with sackcloth.”

God can turn the light into darkness. He has enough power to restore His wife back to Him. He can bring her back from captivity.

50:4 The sovereign Lord has given me the capacity to be his spokesman, so that I know how to help the weary. He wakes me up every morning; he makes me alert so I can listen attentively as disciples do.

The Servant described the training that He would receive from God the Father. As the Lord Jesus Christ was growing up as a human being in Nazareth, God the Father woke Him up early in the morning and taught Him Bible doctrine. God the Father taught Jesus how to become His spokesman on earth. The words of the Lord Jesus Christ were used to counsel and help the weary. The weary were those who sought God, but they were being beaten down by the satanic world system of the Roman Empire.

It is important to note that while in His deity, the Lord Jesus Christ was omniscient and knew everything. This included all of the events of the past, present, and future, because God created time. However, in His humanity, th Lord Jesus Christ had to undergo the same learning process as man. God the Father taught the Lord Jesus Christ daily what He needed to know for His ministry on earth. This is why the Lord Jesus Christ could debate rabbi by the age of twelve years old.

50:5 The sovereign Lord has spoken to me clearly; I have not rebelled, I have not turned back.

God the Father taught Jesus that He was to suffer and die for the sins of mankind. Jesus did not rebel against this teaching. He gladly fulfilled His mission.

50:6 I offered my back to those who attacked, my jaws to those who tore out my beard; I did not hide my face from insults and spitting.

When Jesus was arrested, he welcomed the torturing that He was to receive. He gladly gave His back to be whipped without flinching.

Jesus did not turn His face when they pulled out the hair on His beard. This verse shows that Jesus had a beard. Pulling out one's beard was a sign of unutterable contempt (Nehemiah 13:5).

Jesus did not turn His face when He was spit upon. He accepted the full spittle on His face. The Roman centurions at the cross never saw a man behave in this manner. One of them exclaimed, “This is the Son of God.”

50:7 But the sovereign Lord helps me, so I am not humiliated. For that reason I am steadfastly resolved; I know I will not be put to shame.

As Jesus was suffering, He knew that God the Father was with Him at all times. He knew that this suffering was the purpose of His mission on earth.

50:8 The one who vindicates me is close by. Who dares to argue with me? Let us confront each other! Who is my accuser? Let him challenge me!

The Jews accused Jesus of blasphemy. The Gentiles accused Jesus of sedition and rebellion. However, Jesus was justified by God, so these human courts had no jurisdiction over Him. If God the Father justifies Jesus, then who can accuse Him? Who can harm Him? Who can be His enemy? These are the same questions that Paul asked about Christians in his epistles (Romans 8).

50:9 Look, the sovereign Lord helps me. Who dares to condemn me? Look, all of them will wear out like clothes; a moth will eat away at them.

Jehovah was helping the Servant, but His accusers did not recognize it. All of those who condemn Jesus will wear out like old clothes and die. Jesus will live for eternity. The resurrection of Jesus confirmed His claims.

50:10 Who among you fears the Lord? Who obeys his servant? Whoever walks in deep darkness, without light, should trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God.

Verse 10 is a message to believers. No matter how dark it gets in life, Jesus is always their as a light who will guide them.

50:11 Look, all of you who start a fire and who equip yourselves with flaming arrows, walk in the light of the fire you started and among the flaming arrows you ignited! This is what you will receive from me: you will lie down in a place of pain.

Verse 11 is a message to unbelievers. This verse is a warning to those who reject the Servant. Those who attempt to light their own fire of salvation will set themselves on fire. This fire will burn them up and destroy them. This burning fire will continue to burn them up throughout eternity. Unbelievers will be thrown into the Lake of Fire for eternity.

In conclusion, the end result of liberalism is that the liberals will ignite themselves with fire and destroy themselves with their own ideology.
