14:1 Fools say to themselves, “There is no God.” They sin and commit evil deeds; none of them does what is right.
The Hebrew word for “fool” is נָבָ֣ל (nabal), meaning stupid, wicked, arrogant, vile, mentally deficient, morally insensitive, impious, a madman. He foolishly lives life as if there is no God.
Anyone who claims that there is no God is a madman. He is a lunatic. With the scientific knowledge available to everyone today, only a madman would claim that there is no God. A madman claims that nothing exploded into billions of galaxies. A madman claims that lifeless dirt became alive. A madman claims that Jesus evolved from a monkey. A madman claims that the clockwork accuracy of the universe is a product of random variation. Yet, the satanic world system gives these men Ph.D.’s and allows them to teach in university classrooms. According to Romans 1, the lowest that a man can sink in human depravity is to be an atheist.
According to the Word of God, atheists may possess numerous academic achievements from the satanic world system. However, they are nothing but mere fools in the sight of the omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent God. Their delusion that this beautiful, intricately-complex cosmos could have evolved by itself by chance from absolutely nothing is the most absurd and foolish philosophy in the history of mankind.
Those who reject God as the Creator are arrogant sinners who sin and commit evil deeds. Most of them live in material and physical filth. It is evil to teach others to believe as they do. There is no such thing as a righteous atheist. In God's eyes, they are all foolish and evil.
During the Great Tribulation, God Himself will purge these type of godless men out of this world. He will send them to the Lake of Fire forever. Then, they will know that there is a God who created everything and is sovereign over all of creation. Atheists must believe in some kind of fairy tale in order to get rid of the Creator God who will one day judge them for their sin.
14:2 The Lord looks down from heaven at the human race, to see if there is anyone who is wise and seeks God.
Jehovah possess the high ground. From His high position from heaven, He looks down to earth to see if there is anyone who is wise enough to seek God.
14:3 Everyone rejects God; they are all morally corrupt. None of them does what is right, not even one!
The Hebrew word for “morally corrupt” is אָלַח (alach), meaning sour milk. When God looks down at the human race, He sees, smells, and tastes sour milk.
It is important to note that God is omniscient. When He looks down from heaven, He reads the mind of every man in history. When He reads the mind of man, every person born on this earth is totally depraved and evil. No man on earth is interested in seeking God. In fact, every single man born into the human race rejects God. Everyone of these men are born evil. There is no human goodness in man at all. They are all morally corrupt. They all look, smell, and taste like sour milk. There is not one person on earth who does what is right. Not even one single person on the planet in all of world history has ever done any good act which benefits the kingdom go God. The Apostle Paul used this verse in Romans 3 to prove that all men are guilty before a holy God.
14:4 All those who behave wickedly do not understand— those who devour my people as if they were eating bread, and do not call out to the Lord.
These wicked men are so foolish and stupid, that they do not understand that they are messing with an omnipotent God. They devour God’s people just as though they were eating bread. They do not call out to the Lord. They are arrogant enough to think that they can live without God and devour His people.
14:5 They are absolutely terrified, for God defends the godly.
Atheists are so terrified of a holy God who will judge their sin, so they must create foolish fairy tales to hide themselves from the wrath of God. They convince themselves that nothing exploded into everything and that lifeless dirt became alive. Their world view is based upon the mathematical principle that 0 x 0 = everything. They will find out that God defends the godly. This divine protection of believers causes them to become even more scared, because they know that they will eventually be thrown into the Lake of Fire. They laugh and claim that there is no judgment, but deep inside their soul, their conscience reveals to them this scary truth.
14:6 You want to humiliate the oppressed, even though the Lord is their shelter.
The evil and foolish atheists want to humiliate God’s people. They often attempt to wreck the faith of a young believing college freshmen who is not grounded in Bible doctrine. It is foolish for a parent to send their children to a secular university if their children have not mastered Bible doctrine. University professors are professional atheists who are trained well in the satanic world system. They cannot stand up to a student with strong Bible doctrine, but they can squash the faith out of a student who is fragmented in their theology. It is the duty of parents to teach their children the Word of God at the deepest level so that they will not be deceived by the professional atheists of the satanic world system.
14:7 I wish the deliverance of Israel would come from Zion! When the Lord restores the well-being of his people, may Jacob rejoice, may Israel be happy!
David’s prayer was that the deliverance of Israel would come from Zion. The deliverer is the Messiah. Zion is Jerusalem. During the Millennial Kingdom, the Messiah will deliver all of Israel from the attempts at genocide of the Antichrist. As Paul stated in Romans 11, “All Israel will be saved.” The Messiah will establish the Messianic Kingdom from the literal city of Jerusalem. When Jehovah answers this prayer, then all of Israel will rejoice.
It is important to note that the Hebrew word for “deliverance” is יְשׁוּעַ֪ת (Yeshua), which is the Hebrew root name for “Jesus.” In Hebrew, this verse literally is translated as “I wish Jesus of Israel would come from Jerusalem! When Jehovah restores the well-being of his people, may Jacob rejoice! May Israel be happy!”
