By David.

David wrote this song about divine protection.

27:1 The Lord delivers and vindicates me! I fear no one! The Lord protects my life! I am afraid of no one!

David feared no man, because Jehovah was on his side.

27:2 When evil men attack me to devour my flesh, when my adversaries and enemies attack me, they stumble and fall.

When the enemies of David came against him, then they violated the Abrahamic and Davidic covenants. They received a kind-for-kind judgment from God.

27:3 Even when an army is deployed against me, I do not fear. Even when war is imminent, I remain confident.

War did not scare David because Jehovah was on his side.

27:4 I have asked the Lord for one thing— this is what I desire! I want to live in the Lord’s house all the days of my life, so I can gaze at the splendor of the Lord and contemplate in his temple.

David asked Jehovah if he could live with Him in eternity.

27:5 He will surely give me shelter in the day of danger; he will hide me in his home; he will place me on an inaccessible rocky summit.

Jehovah would provide a safe refuge for David.

27:6 Now I will triumph over my enemies who surround me! I will offer sacrifices in his dwelling place and shout for joy! I will sing praises to the Lord!

The enemies would surround David, but he would triumph, shout for joy, sing praises to Jehovah, and offer thanksgiving sacrifices at the Tabernacle.

27:7 Hear me, O Lord, when I cry out! Have mercy on me and answer me!

David asked Jehovah to listen to his prayers and to show him compassion.

27:8 My heart tells me to pray to you, and I do pray to you, O Lord.

The heart is the brain. It was smart for David to pray to Jehovah.

27:9 Do not reject me! Do not push your servant away in anger! You are my deliverer! Do not forsake or abandon me, O God who vindicates me!

David asked Jehovah for four things. First, he asked Jehovah not to reject him. Second, he asked Jehovah not to push him away in anger. Third, he asked Jehovah to deliver him from his enemies. Fourth, he asked Jehovah not to forsake or abandon him.

27:10 Even if my father and mother abandoned me, the Lord would take me in.

If David was forsaken by his parents, then Jehovah would take care of him.

27:11 Teach me how you want me to live; lead me along a level path because of those who wait to ambush me!

David was the anointed king of Israel. He was carrying the messianic seed. There was a roaring lion who wanted to devour him. David asked Jehovah to teach him how to live in this satanic world system where the enemies were attempting to humiliate and kill David. He asked Jehovah to lead him down the safe paths of life.

27:12 Do not turn me over to my enemies, for false witnesses who want to destroy me testify against me.

False witnesses were testifying against David. They were relying in the hope that David would be arrested and killed. David asked Jehovah to protect him from these false witnesses.

27:13 Where would I be if I did not believe I would experience the Lord’s favor in the land of the living?

If David was not protected by Jehovah, then he would have already been taken out of the land of the living. He would be dead. Every believer who is studying and applying Bible doctrine is in this same situation as David. Satan wants to sift and kill the believer, but Jehovah places a hedge of protection around the believer. Those who do not study and apply Bible doctrine do not need a hedge around them, because they are ineffective in the angelic warfare. Satan ignores them and concentrates his attacks on those who are a danger to His kingdom.

27:14 Rely on the Lord! Be strong and confident! Rely on the Lord!

David ends this song by commanding others to rely on Jehovah; then, they can be strong and confident. One cannot rely on the Lord until the mind is filled with Bible doctrine.
