David wrote this song about trusting God in the midst of evil men who lived in the satanic world system.
37:1 Do not fret when wicked men seem to succeed! Do not envy evildoers!
David commanded the believers not to be concerned when evil men succeed in the satanic world system. They are not to be envied.
37:2 For they will quickly dry up like grass, and wither away like plants.
The wicked men of the satanic world system may grow wealthy, but they will quickly dry up like grass. They will wither away like the plants. They will not be able to enjoy their riches here on earth. There is no hope for them in eternity.
37:3 Trust in the Lord and do what is right! Settle in the land and maintain your integrity!
Instead of fretting about the wealth of the wicked, the Jewish believer should trust in Jehovah and follow the Mosaic Law. He should settle in the land of Israel and maintain his integrity.
37:4 Then you will take delight in the Lord, and he will answer your prayers.
Those who trust in the Lord will be able to take delight in the Lord. Their prayers will be answered.
37:5 Commit your future to the Lord! Trust in him, and he will act on your behalf.
Believers should commit their future to the Lord. Their time on this earth is just a drop in the bucket compared to eternity. If believers will trust in Jehovah, then He will act on their behalf. The way to gain trust in Jehovah is to master and apply Bible doctrine. Those who do not master Bible doctrine will not be able to trust in the world. They will trust in the satanic world system, but think that they are trusting in the Lord.
37:6 He will vindicate you in broad daylight, and publicly defend your just cause.
When Satan accuses the believer, then the Lord will vindicate the believer publicly in broad daylight for all to see. The angels, the demons, and the humans throughout all of history will observe the innocence of the believer. The Lord Jesus Christ is the attorney of the believer. He sits at the right hand of God. He has never lost a case.
37:7 Wait patiently for the Lord! Wait confidently for him! Do not fret over the apparent success of a sinner, a man who carries out wicked schemes!
The believer with strong Bible doctrine will expect the satanic world system to come after him. He will also wait patiently for the Lord to vindicate him publicly in front of the physical and spiritual world.
The believer with strong Bible doctrine will understand that the sinner who carries out wicked schemes will gain wealth, fame, and power. However, these things will not make the wicked person happy. He cannot take them into eternity. The Lake of Fire awaits those who reject God for material wealth.
37:8 Do not be angry and frustrated! Do not fret! That only leads to trouble!
Believers with strong Bible doctrine will not be angry when the wicked man prospers. They will expect it and understand the divine reasoning behind the supposed success of evil men.
37:9 Wicked men will be wiped out, but those who rely on the Lord are the ones who will possess the land.
Wicked men will be exterminated off of this earth during the Great Tribulation. The messianic Jewish believers will inherit the land of Israel during the Millennial Kingdom.
37:10 Evil men will soon disappear; you will stare at the spot where they once were, but they will be gone.
At the end of the Great Tribulation, only believers will enter into the Millennial Kingdom. The unbelievers will be exterminated of of this earth.
37:11 But the oppressed will possess the land and enjoy great prosperity.
When the Millennial Kingdom arrives, those who are oppressed by the Antichrist will possess the land of Israel.
37:12 Evil men plot against the godly and viciously attack them.
The satanic world system hates the Jews. All through history, the Gentiles of the satanic world system have attempted to exterminate them from this earth. However, the Jews have been protected by the Abrahamic Covenant. The Gentiles who have attacked the Jews will received the kind-for-kind judgment. The Gentiles who attempted to exterminate the Jews have either become extinct or have become third world nations.
37:13 The Lord laughs in disgust at them, for he knows that their day is coming.
When evil men attempt to exterminate the Jews, then Jehovah laughs at disgust in them. He knows that the Lake of Fire is waiting for them. Evil men do not have enough Bible doctrine to understand their predicament.
37:14 Evil men draw their swords and prepare their bows, to bring down the oppressed and needy, and to slaughter those who are godly.
Members of the satanic world system would kill every believer on the earth if they were able to do so. God protects the believer from the members of the satanic world system, but He does allow some believers to wear the martyr's crown.
37:15 Their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken.
When the men of the satanic world system come against God’ s servants, then their own weapons will destroy them.
37:16 The little bit that a godly man owns is better than the wealth of many evil men,
Secular humanism is not all that it is cracked up to be. The poverty of a believer is more valuable than the wealth of the secular humanist.
37:17 for evil men will lose their power, but the Lord sustains the godly.
The men of the satanic world system will eventually see their power turn against them. The believers will be sustained by God.
37:18 The Lord watches over the innocent day by day and they possess a permanent inheritance.
The messianic Jewish believers will receive a permanent land inheritance in Israel during the Millennial Kingdom.
37:19 They will not be ashamed when hard times come; when famine comes they will have enough to eat.
God has promised to provide food, clothing, and shelter to His workers. He is the Master Employer who takes care of His family business.
37:20 But evil men will die; the Lord’s enemies will be incinerated— they will go up in smoke.
Just as smoke disappears from the fire, so will evil men die and disappear from the earth. During the Millennial Kingdom, only believers will enter into the Millennial Kingdom. Unbelievers who are born during the Millennial Kingdom will be executed on their 100th birthday.
37:21 Evil men borrow, but do not repay their debt, but the godly show compassion and are generous.
Evil men will borrow money, but not repay their debt. They will not show respect to their lender or to God. The believers with strong Bible doctrine will repay their debt, because they love God and do not want to make Him sad.
37:22 Surely those favored by the Lord will possess the land, but those rejected by him will be wiped out.
During the Great Tribulation, two-thirds of the Jews will be killed by the Antichrist. The one-third of the Jews who survive will enter into the Millennial Kingdom.
37:23 The Lord grants success to the one whose behavior he finds commendable.
Jehovah grants success to those who study and apply Bible doctrine. Success is fulfilling the mission which Jehovah gives to the elect before the foundations of the world were created.
37:24 Even if he trips, he will not fall headlong, for the Lord holds his hand.
Believers who study and apply strong Bible doctrine will trip and fall, but not to their destruction. Jehovah will take them by the hand, lift them up, and lead them through the difficulties. David committed adultery and murder, but God still used him. Jonah refused to go to Nineveh, but God made sure that he made the trip. John the Baptist was the greatest prophet ever, but he still had his doubts. If a believer falls, then Jehovah will pick him up and guide him into his preordained service.
37:25 I was once young, now I am old. I have never seen a godly man abandoned, or his children forced to search for food.
David was a veteran king when he wrote this song. He had never seen a godly man abandoned. Food was always provided to believers. Godly man are those who study and apply Bible doctrine at the deepest level.
37:26 All day long he shows compassion and lends to others, and his children are blessed.
Jehovah shows compassion to His children. He lends to others. He blesses His children.
37:27 Turn away from evil! Do what is right! Then you will enjoy lasting security.
David commanded his people to turn away from evil. He commanded them to do what is right. No one can do what is right unless they are instructed in what is right. The satanic world system teaches their version of what is right and wrong. For example, the satanic world system teaches that abortion, same-sex marriage, socialism, biblical censorship, pornography, evolution, feminism, secular humanism, and alcohol consumption are good things. The Biblical world view teaches the opposite. If one wants security, then one needs to turn from these evil things and turn to the good things which are learned from Bible doctrine.
37:28 For the Lord promotes justice, and never abandons his faithful followers. They are permanently secure, but the children of evil men are wiped out.
Justice comes from the study and application of Bible doctrine. Jehovah promotes justice. All politicians, judges, employers, and leaders need to promote justice.
Jehovah never abandons His faithful followers. His faithful followers are those who study and apply Bible doctrine. Those who study and apply Bible doctrine are secure for eternity. They are promised an eternal life with God. Unbelievers are given a promise from God also. They will be wiped off of this earth and thrown into the Lake of Fire forever.
37:29 The godly will possess the land and will dwell in it permanently.
The Jewish messianic believers are godly, because they believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as the Messiah of Israel and Savior of the world. They will possess the literal land of Israel during the Millennial Kingdom.
37:30 The godly speak wise words and promote justice.
Those who study and apply strong Bible doctrine speak with wise words. They promote justice. People should listen to them, but most of the people do not. Their minds are held captive to the satanic world system.
37:31 The law of their God controls their thinking; their feet do not slip.
Those who study and apply strong Bible doctrine possess the mind of Christ. Their Bible doctrine is so strong, that their feet do not slip. They are able to avoid the slippery spots which the satanic world system places in from of them.
37:32 Evil men set an ambush for the godly and try to kill them.
The evil men are those of the satanic world system. The godly are those who study and apply strong Bible doctrine. The men of the satanic world system will attempt to ambush and kill men who are studying and applying strong Bible doctrine. This is why God must place a hedge around His servants.
37:33 But the Lord does not surrender the godly, or allow them to be condemned in a court of law.
Satan stands at the throne of God and accuses the believers. However, God will not surrender His people to the devil. He will not allow them to be condemned in a court of law.
34 Rely on the Lord! Obey his commands! Then he will permit you to possess the land; you will see the demise of evil men.
Instead of trusting men of the satanic world system, believers should trust in Jehovah. The Jewish believers of David’s day were commanded to obey the Mosaic Law. As long as Israel obeyed the Mosaic Law, then they were able to live in the land. If Israel as a nation obeyed the Mosaic Law, then they would see a demise of evil men. However, Israel refused this advice.
37:35 I have seen ruthless evil men growing in influence, like a green tree grows in its native soil.
David was an old king at this time. He saw how ruthless men grew in influence. They grew in power and influence just as a green tree grows in its native soil.
37:36 But then one passes by, and suddenly they have disappeared! I looked for them, but they could not be found.
David saw that these unbelievers died and left the earth.
37 Take note of the one who has integrity! Observe the godly! For the one who promotes peace has a future.
The godly are those who study and apply strong Bible doctrine. They are the only ones who have integrity. They need to be the role models of society. They are the ones who are promoting peace. The Hebrew word for “peace” is שָׁלֽוֹם (shalom), meaning peace with God. Those who promote peace with God will possess a glorious future in eternity.
37:38 Sinful rebels are totally destroyed; evil men have no future.
Unbelievers will be destroyed during the Great Tribulation. No unbelievers will enter into the Millennial Kingdom.
37:39 But the Lord delivers the godly; he protects them in times of trouble.
The godly are those who study and apply Bible doctrine. They serve Jehovah, so the satanic world system attempts to destroy them. Jehovah protects them when they get in trouble.
Baby Christians do not have enough Bible doctrine to serve God. Satan leaves the babies alone. He comes after those who are actively involved in the angelic conflict. The biggest Baby Christians are those who have been believers for over four years, but they have never studied the entire counsel of the Word of God at the deepest level. They are AWOL in the angelic conflict. They have merged into the satanic world system.
37:40 The Lord helps them and rescues them; he rescues them from evil men and delivers them, for they seek his protection.
Those who study and apply Bible doctrine are active in the angelic conflict. Sometimes they get in trouble, but Jehovah rescues them. He delivers them from the evil men of the satanic world system who wish to devour them.
