43:1 Vindicate me, O God! Fight for me against an ungodly nation! Deliver me from deceitful and evil men!

Psalm 43 completes Psalm 42. The unknown psalmist was in the mountains of the tribe of Dan. His enemies were mocking him because of his faith in Jehovah. He asked God to deliver him from these deceitful men.

43:2 For you are the God who shelters me. Why do you reject me? Why must I walk around mourning because my enemies oppress me?

The psalmist knew that God was his fortress who sheltered him from enemy attacks. However, he asked God two questions. First, why has God rejected him? Second, why must he walk around in mourning while his enemies are oppressing him?

43:3 Reveal your light and your faithfulness! They will lead me, they will escort me back to your holy hill, and to the place where you live.

The psalmist wanted to escape the taunting of his enemies. He asked Jehovah to reveal His light and his faithfulness to him. He asked that Jehovah’s truth would lead him back to Jerusalem so that he could worship at the temple.

43:4 Then I will go to the altar of God, to the God who gives me ecstatic joy, so that I express my thanks to you, O God, my God, with a harp.

After Jehovah delivers the psalmist from his enemies, then the psalmist will return to Jerusalem and praise Jehovah.

43:5 Why are you depressed, O my soul? Why are you upset? Wait for God! For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention.

The psalmist asked himself the same two questions of Psalm 42. First, he asked himself why he was depressed. Second, he asked himself why he was upset. He answered these two questions in the same manner as the last chapter. He will wait for God to deliver him and then thank Him for His saving intervention. This is a good example of how believers in all ages should solve their problems.
