For the music director; according to the tune of “Lilies;” by the Korahites, a well-written poem, a love song.

This song was written by an unknown psalmist for the music director of the Levitical priests.  The sons of Korah would sing these songs to the congregation of Israel during feast days.

45:1 My heart is stirred by a beautiful song. I say, “I have composed this special song for the king; my tongue is as skilled as the stylus of an experienced scribe.”

The psalmist cannot wait to write this song about the coming Messianic King.

45:2 You are the most handsome of all men! You speak in an impressive and fitting manner! For this reason God grants you continual blessings.

The Hebrew word for “handsome” is יָפָה (yapah), meaning beautiful, handsome, or fairer. The Messianic King will be the most beautiful man in history. This is not relating to physical beauty, but to inner beauty. The words of the Messianic King will amaze others. The guards who were sent out to arrest Jesus would say, “No one ever spoke like this man.” This Messianic King will be greatly blessed by God the Father. He will become the Lord of lords and King of kings.

45:3 Strap your sword to your thigh, O warrior! Appear in your majestic splendor!

The Messianic King came the first time without a sword. He came to die as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. He will come the second time with the sword. He will slay the wicked with the sword of His mouth and establish the Millennial Kingdom.

45:4 Appear in your majesty and be victorious! Ride forth for the sake of what is right, on behalf of justice! Then your right hand will accomplish mighty acts!

The Messianic King will appear at His second coming as a victorious King. He will ride forth on a majestic horse. He will do what is right. He will rule with justice. He will accomplish many acts of righteousness. He will bind Satan for 1,000 years. He will imprison the demons in Edom and Babylon. He will purge evil men out of the world. He will bring eternal peace to the world. He will rule as Lord of lords and King of kings.

45:5 Your arrows are sharp and penetrate the hearts of the king’s enemies. Nations fall at your feet.

The ten kings of the Antichrist will be slain by the arrows of the Messiah. All of the kingdoms of the Antichrist will fall at His feet.

45:6 Your throne, O God, is permanent. The scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of justice.

The Hebrew word for God is אֱ֭לֹהִים (elohim), meaning the triune-Creator-God. This King will be the Triune God who created all things. His rule will be permanent, lasting for 1,000 years. His scepter will not be corrupt like human kings. It swill be a scepter of justice.

45:7 You love justice and hate evil. For this reason God, your God has anointed you with the oil of joy, elevating you above your companions.

The Messianic King will love justice and hate evil. This King will be anointed with oil, because He is the Messiah from the line of David. The kings from the line of Messiah were to be anointed with oil to show God’s approval of their office.

It is important to note that Psalm 45:6-7 is quoted in Hebrews 1:8-9, confirming that the psalm is Messianic and that the Father is addressing His eternal Son. The Messianic King is both God and man. There is a similar conversation between the Godhead in Psalm 2:7-8, and Psalm 110:1-2.

45:8 All your garments are perfumed with myrrh, aloes, and cassia. From the luxurious palaces comes the music of stringed instruments that makes you happy.

The Messianic King will be dressed in perfumed clothing. The luxurious palaces are the “mansions” He has prepared for His bride (John 14:2). He will be accompanied with stringed music. The music of the Millennial Kingdom will not glorify sex and drugs. It will glorify the Lord Jesus Christ.

45:9 Princesses are among your honored guests, your bride stands at your right hand, wearing jewelry made with gold from Ophir.

The Messianic King is preparing to meet His bride, the church. Her sin has been removed by the blood of her Husband, so she is very beautiful. Ophir was an Arabian tribe who was known for her gold.

45:10 Listen, O princess! Observe and pay attention! Forget your homeland and your family!

Believers are not to love the world, but they are to leave the world. They have been rescued out of it, so they should cling to the Lord.

45:11 Then the king will be attracted by your beauty. After all, he is your master! Submit to him!

The church is to be made beautiful. All sin will be removed. King Messiah will be attracted to this kind of church. The church is to submit to her Husband, since He is the god-man who will be worshiped by all men for the rest of eternity.

45:12 Rich people from Tyre will seek your favor by bringing a gift.

Tyre was next door to Israel, but it was destroyed many years ago. During the Millennial Kingdom, there will be a New Tyre which will be rebuilt. They will bring gifts to King Messiah and His bride.

45:13 The princess looks absolutely magnificent, decked out in pearls and clothed in a brocade trimmed with gold.

When sin is removed from the church, then she will become a beautiful bride.

45:14 In embroidered robes she is escorted to the king. Her attendants, the maidens of honor who follow her, are led before you.

The church will be escorted to King Messiah.

45:15 They are bubbling with joy as they walk in procession and enter the royal palace.

The wedding of the Messiah to the church will cause the people of the earth to bubble with joy.

45:16 Your sons will carry on the dynasty of your ancestors; you will make them princes throughout the land.

Children will be born during the Millennial Kingdom.

45:17 I will proclaim your greatness through the coming years, then the nations will praise you forever.

When the Messianic King establishes His Millennial Kingdom, then He will not be rejected and hated. He will be loved and worshiped.
