For the music director; by the Korahites; according to the alamoth style; a song.

This song was written by an anonymous psalmist. It was written to the music director of the sons of Korah. The Levitical Choir would sing these songs during the feasts and festivals in Jerusalem.

46:1 God is our strong refuge; he is truly our helper in times of trouble.

God is the refuge and helper who brings safety to Israel.

46:2 For this reason we do not fear when the earth shakes, and the mountains tumble into the depths of the sea, 3 when its waves crash and foam, and the mountains shake before the surging sea. (Selah)

Since God is the refuge and helper of Israel, then she will not fear the judgments of the Great Tribulation. The psalmists asked the hearers of this song to meditate and think about this Bible doctrine. The point is that just as Israel was protected from the Ten Plagues, so will future Israel believers be protected from the judgments of the Great Tribulation.

46:4 The river’s channels bring joy to the city of God, the special, holy dwelling place of the sovereign One.

According to Revelation 22, the New Jerusalem will become a seaport city with rivers flowing in and out of it.

46:5 God lives within it, it cannot be moved. God rescues it at the break of dawn.

The Lord Jesus Christ will physically live in the New Jerusalem.

46:6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms are overthrown. God gives a shout, the earth dissolves.

When the Lord Jesus Christ returns, the nations will be under the control of the Antichrist. These nations will not be happy to see Christ return. The Messiah will overthrow the kingdom of the Antichrist and replace it with the Millennial Kingdom. God will give a shout, causing the geography of the earth to dissolve and change. There will be a new heavens and a new earth.

46:7 The Lord who commands armies is on our side! The God of Jacob is our protector! (Selah)

Jehovah is the One who commands not only human armies, but the angelic army as well. This is why Jehovah is often called “the Lord of hosts.” The God of Jacob is the God of Israel. He made a promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob that He would establish an eternal Kingdom which would bless all nations. This song asked the hearers to meditate and think about this Biblical doctrine.

46:8 Come! Witness the exploits of the Lord, who brings devastation to the earth!

During the Great Tribulation, an invitation will be extended to the people of the earth. They will be invited to watch Jehovah devastate the earth.

46:9 He brings an end to wars throughout the earth; he shatters the bow and breaks the spear; he burns the shields with fire.

The United Nations will never bring peace to the earth. Only the Messiah will end all wars throughout the earth.

46:10 He says, “Stop your striving and recognize that I am God! I will be exalted over the nations! I will be exalted over the earth!”

The modern world hates the Lord Jesus Christ. The nations under the power of the Antichrist will hate the Lord Jesus Christ. The United Nations hates the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, the Lord Jesus Christ will have to return with a rod of iron to smash the nations. Only then will the Lord Jesus Christ be exalted as King of kings and Lord of lords.

46:11 The Lord who commands armies is on our side! The God of Jacob is our protector! (Selah)

Jehovah commands both human and angelic armies. The hearers of this song were asked to meditate and think about this Bible doctrine.
