For the music director; to be accompanied by stringed instruments; a psalm of Asaph, a song.

Asaph wrote this song for the music director of the Levites. It was to be accompanied with stringed instruments. These songs would be performed at the Jewish festivals.

76:1 God has revealed himself in Judah; in Israel his reputation is great.

Asaph sings this song about the future appearance of Jehovah. God will reveal Himself to Judah in the human form of Jesus.

76:2 He lives in Salem; he dwells in Zion.

During the Millennial Kingdom, Jesus will live in Jerusalem.

76:3 There he shattered the arrows, the shield, the sword, and the rest of the weapons of war. (Selah)

During the Millennial Kingdom, all weapons will be destroyed and turned to plowshares.

76:4 You shine brightly and reveal your majesty, as you descend from the hills where you killed your prey.

During the Millennial Kingdom, Jesus will return as the Shechinah Glory. He will reveal His majesty over the heavens and the earth. He will descend from the mountains and kill the armies of the Antichrist.

76:5 The bravehearted were plundered; they “fell asleep.” All the warriors were helpless.

When Jesus returns, the world will be asleep. They will be helpless. The Antichrist will plunder them.

76:6 At the sound of your battle cry, O God of Jacob, both rider and horse “fell asleep.”

When the Lord Jesus Christ returns to the earth as Lord and lord and King of kings, then the armies of the Antichrist will fall asleep.

76:7 You are awesome! Yes, you! Who can withstand your intense anger?

When the Lord Jesus returns to the earth, He will pout His awesome wrath against His enemies. They will not be able to stand up against Him.

76:8 From heaven you announced what their punishment would be. The earth was afraid and silent

God will announce the punishment of the evil Gentile nations from heaven. His punishment will terrify the evil nations. The earth will be afraid and silent.

76:9 when God arose to execute judgment, and to deliver all the oppressed of the earth. (Selah)

Some commentators look at this verse as the destruction of the Assyrians. If so, then the author Asaph would not be the Asaph of David’s dynasty. This Asaph would be one of his descendants.

Another option is to look prophetically at God arising and executing judgment upon the evil armies of the Antichrist. The Lord Jesus will return and deliver the oppressed from the genocidal attempts of the Antichrist.

76:10 Certainly your angry judgment upon men will bring you praise; you reveal your anger in full measure.

When the Lord Jesus Christ opens the seal, trumpet, and bowl judgments of the Great Tribulation, then the saints in heaven and earth will praise Him. The Lord Jesus Christ will reveal His full anger during these judgments upon the earth.

76:11 Make vows to the Lord your God and repay them! Let all those who surround him bring tribute to the awesome one!

During the Millennial Kingdom, the believers in the earth will be able to repay their vows to the Messiah. All Gentile nations will bring tribute to King Messiah.

76:12 He humbles princes; the kings of the earth regard him as awesome.

King Messiah will be able to humble the princes of the world. All of the kings of the earth will worship King Messiah during the Millennial Kingdom.
