94:1 O Lord, the God who avenges! O God who avenges, reveal your splendor!
The author of this song is unknown. God is the one who avenges the believer. When a person of the satanic world system persecutes believers, then he must then deal with the wrath of an omnipotent God.
94:2 Rise up, O judge of the earth! Pay back the proud!
The proud are those of the satanic world system who elevate their human opinions above the Word of God. The psalmist asked the Judge of the universe to rise up and judge these proud and arrogant men.
94:3 O Lord, how long will the wicked, how long will the wicked celebrate?
The psalmist asked God how long He would allow the wicked men to celebrate their wickedness?
94:4 They spew out threats and speak defiantly; all the evildoers boast.
Those who elevate their human opinions above the Word of God are arrogant enough to spew out threats against God’s children. They speak defiantly about God. They boast of their evil.
94:5 O Lord, they crush your people; they oppress the nation that belongs to you.
Those who elevate their human opinions above the Word of God are arrogant enough to try and crush God’s chosen people. They oppress the nation which God has sworn to protect via the Abrahamic Covenant.
94:6 They kill the widow and the one residing outside his native land, and they murder the fatherless.
Those who elevate their personal opinions above the written Word of God will incorporate a murderous attitude towards others. Since they do not believe in a personal God, then their attitude is to “eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow you die.” God had to incorporate a death penalty into society to protect individuals from this godless type of attitude.
94:7 Then they say, “The Lord does not see this; the God of Jacob does not take notice of it.”
The godless convince themselves that there is a God who is watching over them and recording their every action.
94:8 Take notice of this, you ignorant people! You fools, when will you ever understand?
Those who elevate their own human opinions above the Word of God are not only ignorant of Bible doctrine, but they are fools as well.
94:9 Does the one who makes the human ear not hear? Does the one who forms the human eye not see?
God is the One who created the human ears and human eyes. He can see and hear everything that is going on in the life and mind of the godless.
94:10 Does the one who disciplines the nations not punish? He is the one who imparts knowledge to human beings!
God not only disciplines nations, but He punishes godless individual as well. God is the one who imparts Bible doctrine to others. The Bible is a closed book, unless the Holy Spirit opens up the mind of the believer.
94:11 The Lord knows that peoples’ thoughts are morally bankrupt.
God knows the thought life of every individual. He knows the total depraved mental attitude which is in the intellect of every man.
94:12 How blessed is the one whom you instruct, O Lord, the one whom you teach from your law, 94:13 in order to protect him from times of trouble, until the wicked are destroyed.
God instructed the nation of Israel through the Mosaic Law. The purpose of this Law was to protect Israel from destroying herself. Nations who do not study and apply Bible doctrine will destroy themselves.
94:14 Certainly the Lord does not forsake his people; he does not abandon the nation that belongs to him.
God does not forsake His people. He is with them every step of the way. He will allow other nations to discipline His people, but God will never abandon them.
94:15 For justice will prevail, and all the morally upright will be vindicated.
The good guys will win in the end.
94:16 Who will rise up to defend me against the wicked? Who will stand up for me against the evildoers?
Most men possess very weak Bible doctrine, so they will not stand up for truth.
94:17 If the Lord had not helped me, I would have laid down in the silence of death.
If the Lord would not have protected the psalmist, then the satanic world system would have already purged him off of this earth.
94:18 If I say, “My foot is slipping,” your loyal love, O Lord, supports me.
If the believer slips, then the loyal love of God will cause Him to catch and support the believer.
94:19 When worries threaten to overwhelm me, your soothing touch makes me happy.
Worry comes from a lack of Bible doctrine. God is in control, so worry is actually a sin against God. The believer is not trusting God to protect him.
94:20 Cruel rulers are not your allies, those who make oppressive laws.
Cruel leaders are not the friends of believers. They will actually pass laws which support the satanic world system.
94:21 They conspire against the blameless, and condemn to death the innocent.
Cruel leaders will pass laws to conspire and condemn the innocent. Most modern politicians pass laws which keep them in power.
94:22 But the Lord will protect me, and my God will shelter me.
God will protect and shield believers from evil men who wish to persecute them with the law. Most of these cruel leaders will be eliminated from office by a scandal or premature death.
94:23 He will pay them back for their sin. He will destroy them because of their evil; the Lord our God will destroy them.
The Lord God will exact revenge upon evil leaders. He will pay them back what for they deserve. He will destroy them. One of the purposes of the Great Tribulation is to purge sinners out of the world.
