146:1 Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul!

Psalms 146-150 are Hallel songs, or praise songs. The author (or authors) are unknown.

The “soul” is the intellect. All of a man’s intellect should praise Jehovah.

146:2 I will praise the Lord as long as I live! I will sing praises to my God as long as I exist!

God will be praised for eternity.

146:3 Do not trust in princes, or in human beings, who cannot deliver!

Unbelievers and immature believers trust in men to deliver them. This is a big mistake. Man cannot trust in other human beings. The blood of a man does not have the power to redeem another human being.

146:4 Their life’s breath departs, they return to the ground; on that day their plans die.

If men place their trust in other powerful human beings, then they will be disappointed. Eventually, these powerful men will die.

God is eternal. He never dies. It is better for one to trust in God than in man.

146:5 How blessed is the one whose helper is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God, 146:6 the one who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who remains forever faithful, 146:7 vindicates the oppressed, and gives food to the hungry. The Lord releases the imprisoned.

Those who trust in God will be blessed by God. God will be their helper. God will vindicate those who are oppressed. God will provide for for all of His children.

God will release those who are imprisoned. Man is imprisoned to the devil. The Lord Jesus Chris redeemed man and set him free.

146:8 The Lord gives sight to the blind. The Lord lifts up all who are bent over. The Lord loves the godly.

Only Jehovah can give sight to the blind. When Jesus came to the earth and gave sight to the blind, then He proved Himself to be Jehovah in human form.

146:9 The Lord protects those residing outside their native land; he lifts up the fatherless and the widow, but he opposes the wicked.

Jehovah protects the Gentiles who were living inside of Israel. Many of them were Jewish proselytes. They moved from foreign nations to Israel, because they wanted to worship the one true God.

God also protects the widows and the orphans. They have a special place in God’s heart. God opposes the wicked. They may think that they are winning down here on earth, but most of them die young and violently. They take none of their wealth or power with them into eternity. It would have been better if they would never have been born.

146:10 The Lord rules forever, your God, O Zion, throughout the generations to come! Praise the Lord!

Jehovah  is not a pagan god who can be defeated or killed by other pagan gods. Jehovah is eternal and He rules forever.
