149:1 Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song! Praise him in the assembly of the godly!
Psalms 146-150 were Hallel songs which praised Jehovah. The author(s) are unknown. These songs were performed at the Jewish festivals.
The “new song” is mentioned in the Book of Revelation. The new song will be about the Messianic King, who is the Redeemer of mankind.
149:2 Let Israel rejoice in their Creator! Let the people of Zion delight in their king!
Jehovah is the Creator of the world. He is the King of Israel. Therefore, He should be praised.
149:3 Let them praise his name with dancing! Let them sing praises to him to the accompaniment of the tambourine and harp!
The dancers of the satanic world system express sensuality. The dances of the Millennial Kingdom will express the joy of knowing the Lord Jesus Christ.
149:4 For the Lord takes delight in his people; he exalts the oppressed by delivering them.
Jehovah’s great love and major priority is His people. He loves to rescue them from the dangers of the satanic world system and give them salvation.
149:5 Let the godly rejoice because of their vindication! Let them shout for joy upon their beds!
The “godly” are those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation. They rejoice, because they understand and appreciate God’s vindication. They rejoice when they wake up and when they go to bed.
149:6 May they praise God while they hold a two-edged sword in their hand, 149:7 in order to take revenge on the nations, and punish foreigners.
The Gentiles of the satanic world system have always attempted to commit genocide upon the Jewish people. When the Lord Jesus Christ returns, He will purge the evil Gentiles out of this world and send them to hell. Israel will finally experience shalom, or peace with God. Peace with God will bring them peace with the Gentiles.
149:8 They bind their kings in chains, and their nobles in iron shackles, 149:9 and execute the judgment to which their enemies have been sentenced. All his loyal followers will be vindicated. Praise the Lord!
The evil kings and nobles of the Antichrist will be bound in chains. During the Millennial Kingdom, they will be imprisoned in hell. At the end of the Millennial Kingdom, they will be sent to the Lake of Fire.
The “loyal followers” will be those who study and master Bible doctrine. During the Millennial Kingdom, they will be vindicated. For this reason, the congregation should praise Jehovah.
