For the music director; a psalm of David.
David wrote another song which compared the revelation of heaven to the written revelation of the Word of God.
19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; the sky displays his handiwork.
The Hebrew word for “God” is אֵ֑ל (el), meaning the One Creator God. The sky displays God’s finger work. God made the starts with His finger, but He provided salvation with His bare arm (Isaiah 53).
It is also interesting to note that the original constellation of the stars pointed to the redemptive plan leading to the Lord Jesus Christ. At the Tower of Babel, the original constellation was perverted into its modern pagan interpretation of today.
19:2 Day after day it speaks out; night after night it reveals his greatness.
Every day and every night, the creation of the universe reveals the greatness of Jehovah.
19:3 There is no actual speech or word, nor is its voice literally heard.
There is no speech or word from creation, but creation itself glorifies God.
19:4 Yet its voice echoes throughout the earth; its words carry to the distant horizon. In the sky he has pitched a tent for the sun.
Even though the creation does not audibly speak in spoken words, its message echoes throughout the earth. According to Romans 1, those who gaze at the heavens and earth and do not recognize a Creator are “without excuse.”
19:5 Like a bridegroom it emerges from its chamber; like a strong man it enjoys running its course.
Just as a Jewish bridegroom excitedly leaves his house on his wedding day, so does the sun rise. Just as a champion runner races his course, so does the sun make its circuit.
These verses not only speak of nature as a witness to God’s glory, but it also undermines the pagan creation belief system as well as the modern evolutionary belief system.
19:6 It emerges from the distant horizon, and goes from one end of the sky to the other; nothing can escape its heat.
The Hebrew word for “goes” is מוֹצָא (motsah). It does not refer to the sun’s daily orbit, but to that which “goes forth” or “proceeds” from the sun itself. This Hebrew word is used in Deuteronomy 8:3 by everything “proceeds” from the mouth of the LORD.” Just as words “proceed” from the mouth of the Lord, so does radiant energy “proceed” forth from the sun. This radiant energy energizes the entire solar system and sustains all life on earth.
Christ-rejecting scientists falsely claim that this verse teaches the unscientific geocentric view that the sun orbits around a fixed earth. What this verse is saying is that the sun is moving in a gigantic circuit around the center of the Milky Way Galaxy.
Nothing can escape the heat of the sun. This scientific principles mentioned by David in this verse are known in modern science as the first and second laws of thermodynamics.
19:7 The law of the Lord is perfect and preserves one’s life. The rules set down by the Lord are reliable and impart wisdom to the inexperienced.
The unspoken laws of the heavens and earth condemn the soul, because they testify to all men that there is a Creator. Man is without excuse. The written Word of God saves the soul, as it teaches the spirit the only way of salvation.
19:8 The Lord’s precepts are fair and make one joyful. The Lord’s commands are pure and give insight for life.
Jehovah has given men two different books. The visual but voiceless book of creation gives a mighty testimony to the existence and power of God. The written book of the Word of God gives a mighty testimony to the power of God in salvation. The Word of God is “pure.” It also gives “insights” on how to live for God in the satanic world system.
19:9 The commands to fear the Lord are right and endure forever. The judgments given by the Lord are trustworthy and absolutely just.
Jehovah has established the Mosaic Law to help the Jews survive and prosper in the satanic world system. The righteous man will study and apply the Mosaic Law, because these laws were given by divine revelation. Unlike the laws of the satanic world system, the Mosaic Law is absolutely righteous and trustworthy.
19:10 They are of greater value than gold, than even a great amount of pure gold; they bring greater delight than honey, than even the sweetest honey from a honeycomb.
The Mosaic Law is greater in value than gold. It is sweeter than honey. Gold was the most valuable commodity in the ancient Middle East. Honey was the sweetest substance in the ancient Middle East.
19:11 Yes, your servant finds moral guidance there; those who obey them receive a rich reward.
David finds more divine guidance in the written Word of God than he does in gold or honey. Those who obey the Mosaic Law will also receive material prosperity.
19:12 Who can know all his errors? Please do not punish me for sins I am unaware of.
Man cannot know all of his sins, but God does. David asked God not to punish him for sins that he was unaware.
19:13 Moreover, keep me from committing flagrant sins; do not allow such sins to control me. Then I will be blameless, and innocent of blatant rebellion.
David asked God to keep him from committing flagrant sins. David asked God to not allow his sins to control him. David desired to be blameless and innocent before God. He did not want to have a rebellious attitude towards God. David recognized that he was a sinner and the Mosaic Law could not save him.
19:14 May my words and my thoughts be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my sheltering rock and my redeemer.
David prayed and asked Jehovah to help him with his spoken words and his thought life. David praised Jehovah for being his rock and redeemer.
