106:1 Praise the Lord! Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, and his loyal love endures!
The author of this song is unknown. This song was sung at the Jewish festivals.
The psalmist asked the congregation to praise Jehovah. They were to thank God for the many blessings which He had bestowed upon Israel. The satanic world system is evil, but God is good. His love is loyal, meaning that He will continue to love Israel even when they sin.
106:2 Who can adequately recount the Lord’s mighty acts, or relate all his praiseworthy deeds?
Jehovah does so many good things for Israel, that no one can even count them.
106:3 How blessed are those who promote justice, and do what is right all the time!
Corrupt political leaders and judges will have to report to the Judge of the Universe. Those who promote justice and righteousness will gain rewards in heaven.
106:4 Remember me, O Lord, when you show favor to your people! Pay attention to me, when you deliver, 106:5 so I may see the prosperity of your chosen ones, rejoice along with your nation, and boast along with the people who belong to you.
The psalmist asked Jehovah to remember him when God decides to show grace and favor. He wanted to be able to rejoice along with other Israelites who had been blessed by God.
106:6 We have sinned like our ancestors; we have done wrong, we have done evil.
Although Israel was blessed by God as His own chosen people, Israel often sinned against the One who was continually blessing Him. The psalmist will list many of the sins of Israel.
106:7 Our ancestors in Egypt failed to appreciate your miraculous deeds, they failed to remember your many acts of loyal love, and they rebelled at the sea, by the Red Sea.
Out of all of the nations of the world, God chose Israel and blessed them. Slavery was worse than death. God delivered Israel out of slavery with many miracles, but Israel rejected God. At the Red Sea, they complained against God and refused to believe that God could save them.
106:8 Yet he delivered them for the sake of his reputation, that he might reveal his power.
Even though Israel complained against God, God still saved them. His reputation was at stake. Moses told Egypt that God would deliver Israel from Egypt. If God did not save them, then He would be a liar or a powerless God who could not keep His word.
106:9 He shouted at the Red Sea and it dried up; he led them through the deep water as if it were a desert.
God made one shout and the Red Sea divided. All of Egypt and Israel should have worshiped God. Instead, Egypt went through the Red Sea to kill the chosen people of God. Israel later worshiped demonic gods.
It is important to note that when a man is totally depraved and evil, then even miracles of God will not convince him to believe in God. The only way that a person can believe in God is for his intellect to be changed by God Himself. God must give man an efficacious call to salvation, or every man would be lost.
106:10 He delivered them from the power of the one who hated them, and rescued them from the power of the enemy.
Satan hates Israel, because she will give birth to the Messiah. The Messiah will crush the head of Satan. Therefore, Satan attempts to crush Israel. Pharaoh was a human instrument of Satan.
106:11 The water covered their enemies; not even one of them survived.
Egypt was a world power before the Red Sea miracle. After the ten plagues and the dividing of the Red Sea, the economic and military power of Egypt was decimated.
106:12 They believed his promises; they sang praises to him.
After the Egyptian military was destroyed at the Red Sea, Israel sang praises to Jehovah. Israel was like a young teenager who was in love with God.
106:13 They quickly forgot what he had done; they did not wait for his instructions.
Very quickly, this teenager grew up and forgot all of the good things which Jehovah had done for her. She would later become the wife of Jehovah, the adulterous wife, the prostitute wife, the divorced wife, and the redeemed wife.
106:14 In the wilderness they had an insatiable craving for meat; they challenged God in the desert.
Manna from heaven was not good enough for Israel. She craved meat from the satanic world system. She was receiving the most nutritious and best-tasting food in existence, but she refused it. She would rather eat dead bird.
106:15 He granted their request, then struck them with a disease.
God granted the selfish request of Israel. He gave her dead bird for food. Israel grew sick from the food.
It is important to note that God controls the famines and diseases of the world. No nation receives famine or disease, unless God has ordained it. Famine and disease can bring a man close to death, but also closer to salvation. When a man is about to die, then he gets more serious about his thought life. He is more concerned about where he will spend his afterlife. Therefore, it is better to suffer and live in eternity with God, then it is to not suffer and live in the Lake of Fire forever. Suffering causes on to consider salvation more carefully. Prosperity causes one to think more about the here and now.
106:16 In the camp they resented Moses, and Aaron, the Lord’s holy priest.
In the wilderness camp, Israel rebelled against God’s chosen leaders.
106:17 The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan; it engulfed the group led by Abiram.
God eliminated the rebel leaders by having the earth swallow them up and burying them alive. Liberals like to claim that it was mean for God to act in this way.
God is love, but He is also holy. He will not allow leaders of the satanic world system to come against His salvation program for the elect. Liberals who reject God will find themselves in a similar situation. They will die, maybe a violent death, and be thrown into the Lake of Fire forever.
106:18 Fire burned their group; the flames scorched the wicked.
There were many wicked people who wanted to displace Moses from leadership. They were rejecting a prophet of God. God scorched them with flames.
106:19 They made an image of a calf at Horeb, and worshiped a metal idol.
The Israelites saw all of the miracles of God, but they rejected Him and worshiped the metal idol of a cow.
106:20 They traded their majestic God for the image of an ox that eats grass.
The Israelites witnessed the miracles of God, but they chose to worship a cow rather than God.
106:21 They rejected the God who delivered them, the one who performed great deeds in Egypt, 106:22 amazing feats in the land of Ham, mighty acts by the Red Sea.
How totally depraved is man? Israel saw all of the miracles of God in Egypt, the Red Sea, and the wilderness, but still rejected God. Many skeptics say that if God is real, then why does He not appear and show some powerful miracles so that everyone will believe? The answer is that man would not believe. He would still worship the creature over the Creator.
106:23 He threatened to destroy them, but Moses, his chosen one, interceded with him and turned back his destructive anger.
Before the foundations of the world, God planned to destroy Israel. However, He also planned for Moses to intercede and save Israel. the prayer of Moses was all a part of the sovereign plan of God.
106:24 They rejected the fruitful land;they did not believe his promise.
God vomited the Canaanites out of their land and gave it to Israel. The land was very fertile, but Israel forsook it. Men who are totally depraved and evil cannot believe the promises of God.
106:25 They grumbled in their tents; they did not obey the Lord.
In the wilderness, Israel saw the Shechinah Glory every day and every night. They saw manna from heaven every day and every night. They saw Moses tap a rock and bring forth drinking water every day and every night. However, they complained against God. They did not show obedience to Him.
106:26 So he made a solemn vow that he would make them die in the desert, 106:27 make their descendants die among the nations, and scatter them among foreign lands.
God was nice and compassionate to Israel, but she did not appreciate it. He brought her out of Israel with powerful miracles, made her the wealthiest nation in the world, removed the Canaanites, gave the best land on the earth to Israel, and protected Israel from surrounding nations who wanted to devour her, but Israel rejected God.
After the 10 spies lied and gave a negative report to Israel, the people of Israel believed the 10 spies rather than Moses. They accused God of not taking care of their children. God promised that all of the adults (except for Joshua and Caleb) would not enter the Promised Land. However, He would bring every child under 20 years old into the Promised Land. Everyone who entered into the Promised Land was 60 years or younger.
106:28 They worshiped Baal of Peor, and ate sacrifices offered to the dead.
Israel rejected God and began to worship demonic idols.
106:29 They made the Lord angry by their actions, and a plague broke out among them.
God loves Israel, so He must punish her so that she will learn spiritual discernment. He sent disease upon the rebellious adult population of Israel.
106:30 Phinehas took a stand and intervened, and the plague subsided.
Phinehas was the grandson of Aaron and son of Eleazar the High Priest. To stop the idolatry of the Baal-Peor cult, he executed an Israelite man and a Midianite woman while they were together in the man's tent. He ran a javelin through the belly of the man and the woman. Phinehas was later appointed as the third High Priest of Israel.
God is not multicultural. He will not allow Satanism to intermingle with Christianity. Only the one true religion was allowed in the Israelite camp and in the Israelite nation. Those who practiced false religions and false cults were executed. They were not allowed to live among God’s people. Any nation who tolerates false religions is not following the will of God.
106:31 This brought him a reward, an eternal gift.
The execution of satanists seems too strong for liberals, but Phinehas was awarded an eternal gift for his act of execution. During the Millennial Kingdom, there will be no false religions or cults. There will be no homosexuals or lesbians. There will be no drug dealers or drug addicts. There will be no sexual perverts. There will be no thieves. There will be no multiculturalism. There will be no atheists, agnostics, or evolutionists. If man wants peace, then evil cannot exist. One evil man can spoil the whole batch.
106:32 They made him angry by the waters of Meribah, and Moses suffered because of them, 106:33 for they aroused his temper, and he spoke rashly.
At the waters of Meribah, Moses lost patience with Israel when they rebelled against God. In his anger, Moses struck the rock twice, which destroyed the typology of the coming Messiah (Jesus was the rock. He was only to be struck once for sin, and then he would bring everlasting water). As a result of his impatience, Moses lost the privilege of entering into the Promised Land.
106:34 They did not destroy the nations, as the Lord had commanded them to do.
The Canaanites were a cancer who would destroy the whole world. Israel was commanded to execute divine genocide on them, but Israel refused to do so.
106:35 They mixed in with the nations and learned their ways.
Instead of executing divine genocide on the Canaanites, Israel began intermarrying with them and worshiping their demonic idols. For example, Judah was the seed son of Israel, but he married a Canaanite woman. His family began adopting the Canaanite culture.
106:36 They worshiped their idols, which became a snare to them.
The demonic idols of Canaan became a snare to Israel. Israel became more interested in worshiping at the Canaanite prostitution temples than they did in worshiping Jehovah.
106:37 They sacrificed their sons and daughters to demons.
Israel copied the Canaanites and began sacrificing their infants to demonic idols.
106:38 They shed innocent blood— the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan. The land was polluted by bloodshed.
Israel was guilty of murdering their offspring and offering them to demonic gods. Israel had more light, but she rejected she and became worse than the Canaanites.
Child sacrifice is the end result of evolution, Evolutionists will eventually turn to pantheism and sacrifice their children to demons.
106:39 They were defiled by their deeds, and unfaithful in their actions.
The Israelites were the chosen people of God, but they defiled themselves by shedding innocent blood. These children were never given the opportunity to grow up and accomplish God’s will.
106:40 So the Lord was angry with his people and despised the people who belong to him.
Human sacrifice and the worship of demons angered Jehovah.
106:41 He handed them over to the nations, and those who hated them ruled over them.
In order to discipline Israel, God allowed other evil nations to oppress Israel.
106:42 Their enemies oppressed them; they were subject to their authority.
The Assyrians and Babylonians conquered Israel and Judah and placed them under their authority.
106:43 Many times he delivered them, but they had a rebellious attitude, and degraded themselves by their sin.
God sent judges, prophets, and kings to rescue Israel from these Gentile nations.
106:44 Yet he took notice of their distress, when he heard their cry for help.
When Israel cried for help, Jehovah answered.
106:45 He remembered his covenant with them, and relented because of his great loyal love.
Israel survived, because of the Abrahamic Covenant. God saved Israel, because He did not want to break His promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
106:46 He caused all their conquerors to have pity on them.
Israel was oppressed so greatly, that many of her conquerors had pity on her. King Nebuchadnezzar allowed Daniel to administer his affairs. King Cyrus allowed Israel to rebuild her city. Alexander the Great refused to Hellenize Jerusalem. Rome allowed Judaism to govern themselves and enforce their own laws.
106:47 Deliver us, O Lord, our God! Gather us from among the nations! Then we will give thanks to your holy name, and boast about your praiseworthy deeds.
The psalmist asked God to deliver them from among the nations. When God restores Israel, then His holy name will be praised once again.
106:48 The Lord God of Israel deserves praise, in the future and forevermore. Let all the people say, “We agree! Praise the Lord!”
God deserves to be praised for His past and future accomplishments. The people of the congregation were to agree and praise God.
