107:1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, and his loyal love endures!
Psalm 107 opens up the fifth and final book of Psalms, the Book of Deuteronomy. The author is unknown. The author looks prophetically into the Millennial Kingdom. He asks the congregation to give thanks to Jehovah, because it was good for Him to bring Israel into the Millennial Kingdom. God will keep His promises that He made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, because His love will be loyal to the end.
107:2 Let those delivered by the Lord speak out, those whom he delivered from the power of the enemy, 107:3 and gathered from foreign lands, from east and west, from north and south.
This cannot refer to the return from the Assyrian or Babylon Captivity, because both of these returns were from the east. This looks forward to Jehovah returning Israel back into her land at the beginning of the Millennial Kingdom. The enemy is the future Antichrist. The Jews will return to Israel from all nations and all directions.
107:4 They wandered through the wilderness on a desert road; they found no city in which to live.
During the Great Tribulation, the Jews will flee from Jerusalem to escape from the Antichrist. They will escape into the wilderness and be divinely protected at Petra.
107:5 They were hungry and thirsty; they fainted from exhaustion.
During the Great Tribulation, the Jews who do not take the mark of the beast will not be able to buy or sell. They will escape into the wilderness of Petra without food or water.
107:6 They cried out to the Lord in their distress; he delivered them from their troubles.
During the Great Tribulation, The Jews will cry out to Jehovah. He will supernaturally take care of Israel in the wilderness, just as Moses took care of Israel when they were traveling through the wilderness during the Exile.
107:7 He led them on a level road, that they might find a city in which to live.
During the Great Tribulation, God will lead Israel to safety. The city which she will temporarily dwell will be Petra.
107:8 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his loyal love, and for the amazing things he has done for people!
During the Millennial Kingdom, Israel will thank God for delivering her from the Antichrist. They will thank Him for being loyal enough to fulfill the Abrahamic Covenant. She will thank God for her miraculous delivery from the Antichrist.
107:9 For he has satisfied those who thirst, and those who hunger he has filled with food.
During the Millennial Kingdom, Israel will possess an abundance of food and water.
107:10 They sat in utter darkness, bound in painful iron chains, 107:11 because they had rebelled against God’s commands, and rejected the instructions of the sovereign king.
During the Great Tribulation, many of the Jews will remain rebellious against Jehovah. The Antichrist will place many of them in prison. Why doesn’t The Antichrist execute them? Many of the Jews (such as the 144,000) will be sealed, so the Antichrist will not be able to kill them. He will be permitted to place some of them in prison.
107:12 So he used suffering to humble them; they stumbled and no one helped them up.
During the Great Tribulation, the suffering of the Jews will cause many of them to turn to their Messiah.
107:13 They cried out to the Lord in their distress; he delivered them from their troubles.
Jesus said that He would not return to the Jews until she cries out, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.” The Jews will make this call on the last day of the Great Tribulation.
107:14 He brought them out of the utter darkness, and tore off their shackles.
King Messiah will bring Israel out of the darkness of the Great Tribulation. He will free them from the shackles of the Great Tribulation.
107:15 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his loyal love, and for the amazing things he has done for people!
The congregation repeats the chorus of verse 1. They are to thank God for being loyal to His covenants. They are to thank God for His miraculous acts.
107:16 For he shattered the bronze gates, and hacked through the iron bars.
Just as Peter was freed from prison by an angel, many of the Jews who will be imprisoned during the Great Tribulation will be freed as well.
107:17 They acted like fools in their rebellious ways, and suffered because of their sins.
The Jews who reject the Lord Jesus Christ are foolish, because they are rebelling against their own Messiah. His exact identity is recorded as prophecy in Isaiah 53. The Jews will elevate their biased opinions of their human rabbis over the written Word of God. The human rabbis have to spiritualize the Isaiah 53 passage in order to make it fit their own humanistic doctrine. This kind of foolishness causes the Jews to suffer.
107:18 They lost their appetite for all food, and they drew near the gates of death.
During the Great Tribulation, the persecuted Jews will lose their appetite for food and will approach death.
107:19 They cried out to the Lord in their distress; he delivered them from their troubles.
On the last day of the Great Tribulation, the Jews will cry out “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.”
107:20 He sent them an assuring word and healed them; he rescued them from the pits where they were trapped.
King Messiah will rescue Israel from the Great Tribulation. He will send them an assuring word from the Two Prophets, the 144,000 Jewish evangelists, and the written Word of God. Many of the Jews who cannot be killed will be trapped in pits, possibly so that they cannot spread the gospel. They will be rescued from the pits and delivered into the Millennial Kingdom.
107:21 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his loyal love, and for the amazing things he has done for people!
The chorus is repeated for a third time. The Jews who escape the Great Tribulation are to give thanks, because Jehovah is loyal enough to keep His promises to Israel. God performed many miraculous acts to save Israel from the Antichrist.
107:22 Let them present thank offerings, and loudly proclaim what he has done!
During the Millennial Kingdom, Israel will offer thank offerings to God.
107:23 Some traveled on the sea in ships, and carried cargo over the vast waters.
During the Millennial Kingdom, Jews from all over the world will return to Israel in ships.
107:24 They witnessed the acts of the Lord, his amazing feats on the deep water.
This could be a reference to God dividing the Red Sea. Another possibility is that a similar miracle will be repeated during the Great Tribulation. The Euphrates River will possible be dried up during the Great Tribulation.
107:25 He gave the order for a windstorm, and it stirred up the waves of the sea. 107:26 They reached up to the sky, then dropped into the depths. The sailors’ strength left them because the danger was so great. 107:27 They swayed and staggered like a drunk, and all their skill proved ineffective. 107:28 They cried out to the Lord in their distress; he delivered them from their troubles. 107:29 He calmed the storm, and the waves grew silent. 107:30 The sailors rejoiced because the waves grew quiet, and he led them to the harbor they desired.
This stanza could be a reference to Jonah’s visit to Nineveh. Another possibility is that this miracle will be repeated during the Great Tribulation.
107:31 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his loyal love, and for the amazing things he has done for people!
The chorus was repeated for a fourth time. Jehovah should be praised for fulfilling the Abrahamic Covenant. The Abrahamic Covenant will not be fulfilled until the beginning of the Millennial Kingdom.
107:32 Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people! Let them praise him in the place where the leaders preside!
The psalmist asked the congregation to praise Jehovah publicly.
107:33 He turned streams into a desert, springs of water into arid land, 107:34 and a fruitful land into a barren place, because of the sin of its inhabitants.
After Adam and Eve sinned, the world was turned into a desert place.
107:35 As for his people, he turned a desert into a pool of water, and a dry land into springs of water.
This could be a reference to Jehovah turning the barren land of Israel into a fertile land. This happened once when Israel entered the Promised Land. It will happen again during the Millennial Kingdom.
107:36 He allowed the hungry to settle there, and they established a city in which to live.
This could be a reference to the Jews coming into the Promised Land. Another possibility is that this could be the persecuted Jews leaving the wilderness of the Great Tribulation and entering into the Millennial Kingdom.
107:37 They cultivated fields, and planted vineyards, which yielded a harvest of fruit.
This could be a reference to the Jews entering into the Promised Land and harvesting large crops. Another possibility is that the Jews will enter into the Millennial Kingdom with agricultural blessings placed upon the land.
107:38 He blessed them so that they became very numerous. He would not allow their cattle to decrease in number.
This blessing could refer to Israel’s original entrance into the Promised Land. Another possibility is that this could be a prophecy about Israel’s future entrance into the Millennial Kingdom.
107:39 As for their enemies, they decreased in number and were beaten down, because of painful distress and suffering.
Israel still has enemies today who wish to crush her. The Antichrist to come will become the most dangerous enemy of Israel. He will attempt to exterminate them off of this earth.
107:40 He would pour contempt upon princes, and he made them wander in a wasteland with no road.
This stanza could be a reference to the princes of Israel and Judah losing their authority to Assyria and Babylon. Another possibility is that the future political leaders of Israel will lose their authority to the Antichrist.
107:41 Yet he protected the needy from oppression, and cared for his families like a flock of sheep.
During the Great Tribulation, the Jews who refuse to take the mark of the beast will not be able to buy or sell. They will have to completely count on God to supply them with all of their needs. It is very interesting to note that God promises to give every believer food, shelter, and clothing, unless one has been called to wear the martyr’s crown.
107:42 When the godly see this, they rejoice, and every sinner shuts his mouth.
The godly are the Messianic Jews who will survive the Great Tribulation. They will rejoice, because they were chosen to enter into the Millennial Kingdom. All of the sinners will no longer mock the Jewish believers. They will be silenced by death. They violated the Abrahamic Covenant, so they will receive a kind-for-kind curse. The Great White Throne awaits them.
107:43 Whoever is wise, let him take note of these things! Let them consider the Lord’s acts of loyal love!
Those who are wise are those who master and apply Bible doctrine. They will understand this song. They will understand that God keeps His promises. The Abrahamic Covenant will be fulfilled.
