119:1 How blessed are those whose actions are blameless, who obey the law of the Lord.

119:2 How blessed are those who observe his rules, and seek him with all their heart,

119:3 who, moreover, do no wrong, but follow in his footsteps.

119:4 You demand that your precepts be carefully kept.

119:5 If only I were predisposed to keep your statutes!

119:6 Then I would not be ashamed, if I were focused on all your commands. 119:7 I will give you sincere thanks, when I learn your just regulations.

119:8 I will keep your statutes. Do not completely abandon me!

The author of this psalm is unknown. This is the longest psalm and the longest chapter in the Bible. The topic is the inspired, inerrant, and infallible written Word of God. This is an acrostic psalm of 176 verses. The first eight stanzas begin with alef (silent letter), followed by eight verses of bet (the English “b” sound), eight verses of gimel (the Engllsh “g” sound), etc. This song was sung at the Jewish feasts.

In verse 9, those who study and apply Bible doctrine will desire to live a pleasing life for God, even in their youth. It is the responsibility of parents to teach their children to master Bible doctrine so that they will not conform to the world. Every subject is taught in school today, except for the Bible. Liberals feel that the Bible is too dangerous. Someone might read it and change their political party.

119:17 Be kind to your servant! Then I will live and keep your instructions.

119:18 Open my eyes so I can truly see the marvelous things in your law!

119:19 I am like a foreigner in this land. Do not hide your commands from me!

119:20 I desperately long to know your regulations at all times.

119:21 You reprimand arrogant people. Those who stray from your commands are doomed.

119:22 Spare me shame and humiliation, for I observe your rules.

119:23 Though rulers plot and slander me, your servant meditates on your statutes.

119:24 Yes, I find delight in your rules; they give me guidance.

The next eight verses begin with the Hebrew letter gimmel, which is the English “g” sound.

Satan found out in first century Rome that “the blood of the martyrs was the seed of the church.

In verse 24, those who study and apply Bible doctrine will enjoy their study time. Bible doctrine will guide the mature believer into making divine-viewpoint decisions rather than human-viewpoint decisions.

119:25 I collapse in the dirt. Revive me with your word!

119:26 I told you about my ways and you answered me. Teach me your statutes!

119:27 Help me to understand what your precepts mean! Then I can meditate on your marvelous teachings.

119:28 I collapse from grief. Sustain me by your word!

119:29 Remove me from the path of deceit! Graciously give me your law!

119:30 I choose the path of faithfulness; I am committed to your regulations. 119:31 I hold fast to your rules. O Lord, do not let me be ashamed!

119:32 I run along the path of your commands, for you enable me to do so.

The next eight verses begin with the Hebrew letter dalet, which is the English “d” sound.

In verse 25, those who study and apply Bible doctrine will realize that they are nothing but dust from the ground. Whenever the enemy crushes them back into dirt, them they will revive themselves by studying the Word of God and come back stronger. The enemy uses the satanic world system to degrade men back into dust. Television can be used to teach the Bible, or it can be used to degrade men. Studying the Bible on a daily basis will keep man from degrading himself back into dust.

The mature believer will ask God for understanding of the deep truths of Scripture. The mature believer will desire to meditate upon the Scriptures. Meditate does not mean to memorize the Scriptures. It means to study and apply the Scriptures at the deepest level. The Bible never commands itself to be read. It is to be studied.

In verse 28, those who study and apply Bible doctrine will want to study the Bible as often as possible. They will thirst and hunger for more.

In verse 29, those who study and apply Bible doctrine will recognize that they live in the deception of the satanic world system. 119:34 Give me understanding so that I might observe your law, and keep it with all my heart.

119:35 Guide me in the path of your commands, for I delight to walk in it.

119:36 Give me a desire for your rules, rather than for wealth gained unjustly.

119:37 Turn my eyes away from what is worthless! Revive me with your word!

119:38 Confirm to your servant your promise, which you made to the one who honors you.

119:39 Take away the insults that I dread! Indeed, your regulations are good.

In verse 37, those who study and apply Bible doctrine will ask God to turn their eyes away from worthless things of the satanic world system. The mature believer desires that Bible study become their major priority in life.

In verse 38, those who study and apply Bible doctrine continually ask God to remind them of God’s promises which are found in Scripture.

In verse 39, those who study and apply Bible doctrine ask God to protect them from the insults of those who live in the satanic world system.

In verse 40, those who study and apply Bible doctrine want to learn more. The pressures of the satanic world system degrade man and bring him down. The Word of God refreshes men and elevates him to think and act like God.

119:41 May I experience your loyal love, O Lord, and your deliverance, as you promised.

119:42 Then I will have a reply for the one who insults me, for I trust in your word.

119:43 Do not completely deprive me of a truthful testimony, for I await your justice.

119:44 Then I will keep your law continually now and for all time.

119:45 I will be secure, for I seek your precepts.

119:46 I will speak about your regulations before kings and not be ashamed.

119:47 I will find delight in your commands, which I love.

119:48 I will lift my hands to your commands, which I love, and I will meditate on your statutes.

The next eight verses begin with the Hebrew letter vav (or waw), which is the English “v” or “w” sound.

In verse 41, those who study and apply Bible doctrine desire to experience the loyal love of God. They desire to experience the salvation which God has promised.

If God or His written word is insulted, then the believer should show the skeptic his ignorance and then ask him to “have a nice day.” Proverbs advises a believer not to argue with fools, or it will turn the believer into a fool. Those of the satanic world system trust in the speculations, opinions, philosophies, and false prophecies of foolish men who do not know Bible doctrine. Mature believers trust in the written Word of God.

119:51 Arrogant people do nothing but scoff at me. Yet I do not turn aside from your law.

119:52 I remember your ancient regulations, O Lord, and console myself.

119:53 Rage takes hold of me because of the wicked, those who reject your law.

119:54 Your statutes have been my songs in the house where I live.

119:55 I remember your name during the night, O Lord, and I will keep your law.

119:56 This has been my practice, for I observe your precepts.

The next eight verses begin with the Hebrew letter zayin, which is the English “z” sound.

In verse 49, those who study and apply Bible doctrine will pray and ask for God to remember His promises to those who serve Him. The mature believer receives his hope from the Word of God. His doctrines are eternal.

119:62 In the middle of the night I arise to thank you for your just regulations.

119:63 I am a friend to all your loyal followers, and to those who keep your precepts.

They steal, kill, and destroy, because they follow the nature of their father the devil.

119:83 For I am like a wineskin dried up in smoke. I do not forget your statutes.
