By David.
Psalms 138-145 were written by David
138:1 I will give you thanks with all my heart; before the heavenly assembly I will sing praises to you.
David will thank God with all of his intellect. The Hebrew for “heavenly assembly” is אֱלֹהִ֣ים (elohim), meaning the Triune-Creator-God. David will sing praises before the Triune-Creator-God.
138:2 I will bow down toward your holy temple, and give thanks to your name, because of your loyal love and faithfulness, for you have exalted your promise above the entire sky.
The Hebrew word for “holy temple” is קָדְשְׁךָ֡ וְאֹ֘ודֶ֤ה אֶת (kodosh-ka wa-odah et), meaning the holy temple or the holy tabernacle. Since the the temple was not built in David’s day, then he worshiped at that tabernacle.
138:3 When I cried out for help, you answered me. You made me bold and energized me.
David cried out to Jehovah for help. His prayer was answered. God energized David by the Holy Spirit so that he could perform the tasks which God had given him to do.
138:4 Let all the kings of the earth give thanks to you, O Lord, when they hear the words you speak.
All of the kings of the earth have never given praise to Jehovah. This prayer will be answered during the Millennial Kingdom.
It is important to note that the only perfect government on earth will be a theocracy where God appoints redeemed men with glorified bodies into political positions. This will be the type of government during the Millennial Kingdom. The saints will receive new glorified bodies which cannot sin. They will co-reign with Christ. Some saints will rule over five or ten cities. How many cities, if any, will you rule over?
138:5 Let them sing about the Lord’s deeds, for the Lord’s splendor is magnificent.
During the Millennial Kingdom, the kings of the earth will sing about Jehovah’s accomplishments. God the Father will overthrow the Antichrist, purge evil men out of the world, and then place King Messiah on the throne of the Millennial Kingdom.
138:6 Though the Lord is exalted, he takes note of the lowly, and recognizes the proud from far away.
During the Millennial Kingdom, Jehovah will be exalted and receive the worship and respect which is due to him. No longer will men claim that nothing exploded into everything and dead dirt became alive. No longer will men worship Buddha, Muhammad, Joseph Smith, or other false prophets. There will be no more of these arrogant men left upon the earth. Everyone will humble themselves and recognize Jehovah as the one true God. They will all honor His Son as the god-man and Messianic King.
138:7 Even when I must walk in the midst of danger, you revive me. You oppose my angry enemies, and your right hand delivers me.
David could walk among his enemies knowing that God was his shield. The believer who studies and applies Bible doctrine also possesses God as his shield. Therefore, the believer can walk safely and perform the task which God has given him to do.
138:8 The Lord avenges me. O Lord, your loyal love endures. Do not abandon those whom you have made!
If anyone attempts to destroy David, then God will avenge him. The modern believer who studies and applies bible doctrine has God as his avenger. The lesson of Job was that no one can touch a believers without God’s permission.
