David wrote psalms 138-145. These songs were written to be sung by the Levites at the Jewish feasts.
144:1 The Lord, my protector, deserves praise— the one who trains my hands for battle, and my fingers for war, 144:2 who loves me and is my stronghold, my refuge and my deliverer, my shield and the one in whom I take shelter, who makes nations submit to me.
David lived in the satanic world system. All of the Gentile nations were beasts who wanted to devour Israel. There was no peace on the earth at this time.
It is important to note that the only peaceful time in history was during the time of Rome Pax Romano. God allowed peace at this time, so that Paul could take the gospel through the silk roads and Mediterranean Sea voyages into Gentile territories. After Paul was martyred, peace left the earth once again. When Emperor Nero began to persecute the Christians inside of the Roman Empire, then outside Germanic tribes and Huns began to take away the Roman Empire. It could be very well said that the little blind Jewish man Paul brought down the Roman Empire.
It is important to note that there will be no peace on the earth until the Lord Jesus Christ returns with a rod of iron. It is foolish for modern political leaders to disarm their nations. They are simply inviting the beasts of the world to come in and devour them.
After Jesus was rejected, then their would be no immediate Millennial Kingdom of peace upon the earth. Therefore, Jesus commanded that believers to carry swords so that they could protect themselves from the violent unbelievers of the satanic world system. This is the devil’s world and he will attempt to kill any and all devout believers who study and apply bible doctrine at the deepest level. Therefore, mature believers need to pray for protection. Immature believers need to pray for spiritual maturity, which comes from the study of Bible doctrine.
David recognized the violent nature of the satanic world system. He knew that Israel was a target of Satan’s Gentile armies. Therefore, he asked God to protect Israel from the Gentile armies.
144:3 O Lord, of what importance is the human race, that you should notice them? Of what importance is mankind, that you should be concerned about them?
The Greek and Roman gods were fickle and mischievous. They did not care much about humans. They would lose their temper and bring a lightning bolt, a tidal wave, or an earthquake upon the humans. The pagan gods had little or no concern for humans. They were just as selfish and fickle as the humans who invented them.
Jehovah is different. He is alive. He is not a lifeless idol. He has no image. The other gods were created in the image of humans, animals, or luminaries. Jehovah cares for humans. He knows how many hairs are on the head of every human being. He has promised to be food, clothing, and shelter for His own children. He brings salvation to His children. He protects His children and gives them a divine purpose in this life.
144:4 People are like a vapor, their days like a shadow that disappears.
People without God are nothing but vapors. They live for about 70 years. They perform nothing but human good works, which are dirty menstrual rags to God. They waste their lives participating in actives of the satanic world system. They pass their same satanic world view on to others. They die. Their memories fade away. They are thrown away like trash. They burn in the Lake of Fire forever.
144:5 O Lord, make the sky sink and come down! Touch the mountains and make them smolder!
The Gentile nations were beasts who wanted to devour little Israel like sheep. If taken literally, then David received supernatural help from heaven. When the Gentile nations attacked Israel, they usually took the high ground in the mountains. When they took their positions in the high ground, then the sky sank down from heaven. The sky touched the mountains. The mountains burst into flames. All of the Jewish and Gentile soldiers who saw this miracle knew that Jehovah was the one true God.
144:6 Hurl lightning bolts and scatter them! Shoot your arrows and rout them!
When the Gentiles attacked Israel, then God killed many of the enemy soldiers with lightning bolts. This was another tremendous testimony to both armies that Jehovah was God and Israel was His protected nation.
144:7 Reach down from above! Grab me and rescue me from the surging water, from the power of foreigners, 144:8 who speak lies, and make false promises.
David was drowning in the foreign policies of the Gentiles. They would promise peace and deliver war. David asked God to protect him from drowning in the flood of Gentile foreign polices.
144:9 O God, I will sing a new song to you! Accompanied by a ten-stringed instrument, I will sing praises to you, 144:10 the one who delivers kings, and rescued David his servant from a deadly sword.
After David won battles against the Gentile armies, then he wrote new songs to God. David was a mighty and dangerous king. He was an outstanding theologian. He was an outstanding architect. He was also an outstanding musician. He was Napoleon, Martin Luther, Caesar, and Beethoven all in one man. He was a man after God’s own heart.
144:11 Grab me and rescue me from the power of foreigners, who speak lies, and make false promises.
David could not trust the Gentile political leaders. They were totally depraved and evil, just like the political leaders of today. It is foolish for any political leader to believe that he can trust other political leaders to keep their promises. It is even more foolish to disarm one’s nation on the faith that other political leaders will likely do the same. When a biblically- ignorant electorate votes in a biblically-ignorant political leader, then this biblically-ignorant political leader will make foolish decisions which place the nation at risk.
144:12 Then our sons will be like plants, that quickly grow to full size. Our daughters will be like corner pillars, carved like those in a palace.
When a nation builds a strong army based upon sound biblical doctrine, then the nation will survive. The children will grow like plants. The population will increase. Better technology will be produced to defend the increased population. Abortion decreases the population of the United States, making them more vulnerable to foreign attacks. America may have aborted the man who cured cancer. They may have aborted great theologians, great leaders, great educators, great warriors, and great entertainers.
144:13 Our storehouses will be full,providing all kinds of food. Our sheep will multiply by the thousands and fill our pastures.
When a nation is strong in Bible doctrine, then its agriculture will increase and improve. More people can produce more food. More food brings more profit from outside resources. Whoever controls food, water, and oil can bankrupt the rest of the nations.
144:14 Our cattle will be weighted down with produce. No one will break through our walls, no one will be taken captive, and there will be no terrified cries in our city squares.
When a nation studies and applies Bible doctrine at the deepest level, then that nation will elect political leaders who improve its economy. There will be more food, better agriculture, stronger armies, more technology, and less crime. Liberalism takes away the power of a nation. Conservatism builds the power of a nation.
144:15 How blessed are the people who experience these things! How blessed are the people whose God is the Lord!
Nations who build upon strong Bible doctrine will be blessed and will experience the prosperity of God. The founding fathers built upon the precepts of public school education for everyone. The public school education system of the founding fathers emphasized the teaching of the Bible.
It is important to note that as American becomes more liberal, they will lose their power. They will eventually become a nation of Laodicean churches. Politicians will become more foolish. They will take away the rights of the people and rule them by starving them to death. Civil
wars and assassinations will take place. When the male population decreases, then outside forces will overtake America. Famine and disease will occur. Americans will turn to cannibalism. If one does not think that this sounds feasible, then remember that this was the same cycle of Israel’s fall. Not only did Israel fall in this way, but Persia, Greece, Rome, and many other powerful civilized nations fell in the same way.
